OBD port access logging
Discussion
Is there anyway of telling (via dealer if necessary) if someone has accessed or attempted to access the OBD port on an E60?
I left my car at an airport meet and greet and after picking it up I have noticed that the OBD port cover is open and the bonnet was not closed properly and both were closed prior to dropping the vehicle off.
My car has had the security update but I am worried that, with the keys and therefore the alarm/immobiliser disabled, access to the OBD port may still have allowed someone to do something malicious so I want to be able to put my mind at rest and check if the port has actually been accessed and if something has been attempted.
I am not sure if BMW would tell me what information they can access within the car about access attempts for security reasons especially in light of the recent bad press so I am hoping someone here might know if I can find out if anything has been done or attempted whilst the car was out of my sight and with keys?
Car is a 2010 E60 M5.
Thanks

Maybe it's just me but I would never leave a high performance or even an "interesting" car with valet parking or one of the airport car parks where you turn in the keys. The temptation for someone to go for a hoon or worse must be huge. Not much point in recording the mileage as that just gives you proof after the fact. A mate left his RR at such a place and came back to find an extra 80 miles and quarter tank of fuel missing - the story was that the manager took the car home for safe keeping at night. The chances of abuse or misuse are too high for my tastes.

it's my understanding that they still have to break into the car .so the next question is are the locks ok.
Unfortunately not in this case as they had the keys so they could access the OBD port at their whim and could have easily copied a key. After speaking to BMW they don't think they will be able to tell if it has been accessed and have recommended new keys / recoding which I will have to stump up for

Lesson learned here for sure, will be parking in the long stay and getting the bus next time!stats007 said:
Might be worth reporting to whoever runs the airport carpark. They must have CCTV? At best it could discover some scrote that's in cohorts with a gang of car thieves.
The meet and greet company use their own car park off site but only the entrances and exits have CCTV - I have reported it to them but they are saying unless I have proof something has been done then they aren't interested and, likewise, the Police don't want to know unless there is evidence of a crime being committed so it looks like I am going to be out of pocket to pay for the new keys etc.dowzer said:

Just out of curiosity what do you do about the door locks when you have new keys? Do you have to get those changed too? dowzer said:

I thought that a BMW dealer would be able to confirm if another (third?) key had been programmed? After speaking to BMW they don't think they will be able to tell if it has been accessed and have recommended new keys / recoding which I will have to stump up for

i wouldn't worry ,yes i bloody well would.if it was stolen from the airport then they would have been responsible ,so they get a spare set cut nip around your house and away they go bye bye m5
did they have your address?
Quite. It seems an amateurish way around it, but potentially if they have a crooked member of staff they can quite easily code another key at leisure... And they have a booking address, presumably. Nice little earner...did they have your address?

The company has my address - you would hope they wouldn't give this information out to staff unless they needed to know but I am not holding my breath.did they have your address?
My fear is some scrote now has a key for my car and knows where I live - few nights of light sleep ahead I think!
