Need a set of better/bigger brakes for my track e46 M3

Hi Guys,

i am looking at purchasing a new set of brakes for my track e46 m3, (yes i am still running standards)

anyone point me in the right direction or have a set for sale?

Nick Johnson (CSL specialist) nearly always has a used set for sale in the PH classifieds, which will have been ripped off a CSL. I think he puts standard stuff back on because people are muppets and are put off a CSL which has been tracked - they love it!

how much do you want to spend?

this is budget version I have done on my car

Porsche 996 calipers - 400 GBP for all four from ebay
Caliper mounts - 180 GBP for all four (copied the mov'it ones I had on my z3mcoupe)
New CSL front discs - 230 GBP
Rear discs - you can keep your stock ones
Stainless steel lines - 60 GBP

Pads your choice - for track days I would go for Carbone Loraine - RC6 front and RC5 rear will set you back about 250 GBP.

I doubt you need bigger brakes, you just need better pads.

Pagid RS29s are my favourites. Try those before you spend thousands on upgrading the calipers and discs.

Complete waste of money!

The standard brakes, while not great at all, are fine for road use.

And if you go to a more open track like Snetterton, you can have an awful lot of fun, without relying on brakes too much.

You need to contact a guy called Fuchsröhre as he apparently has amazing brakes on his csl that never fade.

Alternatively there are always other csl guys who dream of working at BMW FIZ who can suitably advise. :-)

The ironic thing is people want CSL which never been tracked but then track it. Might as well go for a well abused track one

There was recently a group buy for the csl disc and bmw performance caliper on m3 cutters. Apparently this is good value and will improve performance without breaking the bank. I'm intending to do the porsche brembo conversion on my e36 m3. A company called porsche calipers.co.uk sell the calipers that fit e46 with a modified carrier bracket.

161bmw, I think they are only for the e9x series, excluding the m3 and 335, it's basically a 135i brembo 6 pot kit. I have them on my e91, great brake kit for reasonable money. Be nice to see if it will fit the e46.

I have the BMWP performance 6 pot Brembos up front and porsche 986 4 pot rear Brembos going on my CS Monday, will post some pics. Both callipers need custom brackets which are available to buy. They use the standard CS/CSL front disc an M3/CS/CSL rear disc.
Relatively good price for a BBK.

Motk, did you try using the std bmw performance disc upfront? I know people with e39 m5's fit the bmw performance disc.
