E46 M3 Short Shift Kit
Discussion
Just wondering if anyone has experience with a SSK on their E46 M3. Immediate questions are:
1. How much better is the gearshift over the OEM set up?
2. Which brands recommended (read a bit about Rogue Engineering SSK who seem to be the best?)
3. Will they increase the wear rate on the gearbox?

Hi rahul I had an ac shnitzer short shift on my m3 their gear was approved by BMW some time ago so no problems with the warranty, it did make some difference shorter more positive shift but I didn't like the chrome knob that came with it so I changed that for the e46 sport gear knob which is very similar too the standard m illuminated one but its about an inch shorter, the shnitzer setup was about £600 fitted.

Hi Rahul, i had an ACS ssk on my car when i bought it. It was great, especially compared to the sh*tty standard box. Unfortunately my insurance company (esure
) refused to insure me with it on so i had to put it back to standard...
Mine actually isnt too bad now as it now has a clubsport gearknob on there which helps a lot.

I think I have the E46 M sport gear nob. Certainly improved over standard. Tried a car with AC short shift kit and although it was nice I think after a while it would be irritating.
The one I have now is about right for me.
ETA:
are these kits likely to make the changes less notchy?

Look into the uuc evo3 short shift and their double shear shift rod.

Had the ZHP SSK fitted today. The improvement over stock shifter is pretty unbelievable. Shorter by a long way and much more precise. Rifle bolt type action would be close to describing how it feels. For those out there who have not gone the SSK route with their E46 M3, your missing out on improving the driving experience considerably.
