Okay, come on now, admit it.

While we look at all the snow falling, we have to agree that not having a 4x4 m3 is a real pain, and I am personally jealous of people with rs4s today.

Especially dean smiths rs4 from EVO magazine. His car looks bad ass and while my m3 is great and all, its likely to be in the garage for the best part of a week because of the snow.

Still not sure I'd switch to Audi despite the weather. I just wish I could have an xdrive m3. Maybe the new one will have that option ?

I would rather an M5 on winter tyres than an RS on summers, we have the choice to drive around on the edge or to put tyres on that take care of the risk for you smile

As posted, winter tyres are the way ahead. Get a good new wheel and tyre set for under £2k and keep them in the Garage for 90% of the year. Then you'll not only have the better drivers car all year round, but better traction when it snows too smile

I haven't got any yet, but as my 1M nearly got stranded in the car park at work on Friday, I will be getting a set for next winter smile

Interestingly I currently have an A4 Quattro, but after a long list of Audi's I fancy a change - and I've been looking at M3's. However this morning I found myself wondering how I would cope without the reassurance of the Quattro system. I'm not saying it is the be all and end all, however it's great in the dry, brilliant in the wet and perfect for ice and snow. You don't have to mess around changing Tyres in the winter either. All that aside, I still fancy an M car, I'm just not sure how ill feel about it when the weather gets bad!

I love having RWD in snow...empty car park at work this moroning, lovely layer of white stuff, might have lost lost control/grip a few times and ended up spining around in circles...looks like my winter tyres don't quite grip as well as I thought in snow smile

If you want 4 wheel drive you can always buy an Alpina B3 Allrad.

To my way of thinking, quite a sacrifice to make in terms of driving dynamics for the 2 or 3 days of snow we actually get in any one year.

Maybe Audi 'quattro' on the wrong tyres isn't all it's cracked up to be.... wink

A Quattro on summers is worse than a red on winters.

My M3 is on winters and they are amazing in the snow. Yes still need to be careful with all that power but they are very impressive. No longer looking jealously at those RS boys!

But too much snow and it wouldn't work, whereas apparently winter tyres work wonders smile

I keep an E34 525IX for winter.

Way more interesting than an auld Quattro!

X-drive rules. cool

Its not the quickest thing on 4 wheels but as long as it still has the blue and white badge on the bonnet, I happy.

I held on to my last car a B5 RS4 when I bought my M6 because the price didn't warrant getting rid of it, they're pretty rare, and, living in Ireland, the weather justifies the RS more than the UK might. Permanent 4WD on the B5 RS is really good, very surefooted, but as most say winter tyres on a RWD car make a massive difference.

Ermm well my 1M is currently stranded 4 miles from my house at my in-laws.

Another vote for 4 winter tyres on virtually any car versus summer tyres on an AWD car.

Many people don't realise the massive improvement winter tyres can provide. We spend 10s of thousands of pounds on M cars and then needlessly tip-toe around in the winter for the lack of less than a thousand pounds of winter rubber.

true. My point is that people seem to make too big a thing of a little snow a lot of the time.

I live in the north of Scotland and I run winters on my M5 every year, snow is not a problem, it is actually better than most cars in the snow, has never been stuck at all.
