Woke up this morning to find my E61 M5 Touring gone from the driveway.

Reg number is: KS07 OFB.

Its space grey with the M6 alloys.

I know this is very much a hopeless post but thought I'd give it a go anyway.

Thanks.

Gutted for you Mike frown

I have one too and cannot imagine! Did you have the latest ECU updates to prevent the OBD type theft?

shocking. sorry to hear this pal. the M5 still seems to be so appealing to these scumbags.

did you have any secondary theft deterent devices on it such as a crook lock/steering lock?

They stole the keys from the house and must have rolled it off the driveway.... Gutted.

Family all OK and none the wiser until I couldn't find my keys.

Car has been recovered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was parked-up under 5 miles away, presumably seeing if it had a tracker or not. Apparently a TT and another sports car were taken from Edinburgh/Livi last night too and there has been a spate of these recently, so its an organised bunch.

Thanks to Lothian & Borders finest, they've been incredibly quick to react this morning, top effort all round.

They broke in through a patio door, feck knows how. Took car and house keys along with a laptop and some money they found lying around, but thankfully didn't disturb the family.

Had exactly the same happen to me in July last year and as you say absolutely gutted so know how you feel you have my total sympathy.

I was amazed just how they managed to do this without me hearing them, still annoys/confuses me. Still, as I was told by someone, good job you did not wake up as these guys do not want to be caught and so are on alert and probably carrying weapons of some sort. Contrast that with you startled and half asleep staggering down stairs. Odds are it will not end happily for you, so as said blessing you were asleep.

These scum really make my piss boil and unfortunately there is an ever increasing amount of them, one hopes they get their just reward one day and I do not mean a prison sentence (a premature painful end to their existence would provide a warm feeling inside).

Police came round, went through the motions - indeed whilst they were ok I could not help but feel their thought cogs thinking was I in someway part of this. Then there is the loss of no claims (if not protected but not sure this really works anyway), hassle getting paid out and then having to replace - general upheaval.

Hope all goes smooth for you from here.

This is the one thing I am not looking forward to when we move into the house soon. Flats are so much more secure from this sort of thing and houses with more points of entry are just prone to it. I'm not sure what the answer is now?

after having this happen to me years ago (some s broke into my house stole my keys and my seat leon cupra r) i now religiously sleep with my car keys next to my bed.

they'll have to get past my dogs to get to them, so good luck.

If you remember my E61 M nearly got stolen from outside my house about 3 weeks ago. Then I got in touch with the people who make the OBD re-programmer - they were adamant the BMW fix will not stop anyone who wants to steal the car from doing so. The company which makes the OBD re-programmer is a legitimate business and they contacted BMW and made them aware of the problem - as usual BMW could not give a monkey's... BMW also refused an offer of cooperation. Since then, I have seen the re-programmer in action at a BMW specialist. Fix, schmix - it did not work on a 2009 X5 - a new key was programmed in 1m and 20sec..

It's as if the Gods don"t want me to buy one of these. During the few weeks I've been actively looking someone tries to nick Cheburator's and now this. There's only 190 on the road total! At this rate it won't be long before 5% of all E61 Touring's will have been nicked/attempted to be nicked.

On M5board I read a post where someone showed how to remove a specific wire from from the back of ODB port. and Tape it to the loom. Renders it useless but (relatively) quick to fix if you know to do it - but someone having to get screwdrivers out and take the whole port out/find wire reattach etc might stop them.

Or put a snake in the car as someone else did apparently.
