Right I actually brought the E60 M5 today and it gets delivered next week.

It's silverstone 2, silverstone leather, 2007 model, 60k, about 15 services in the book including the first 1500 one, 2 owners, BMW AUC so a years warranty with option to extend and amazing.

I took it out and the smg is good, when around town in auto it was not the smoothest although not as bad as I expected. However put it in S5 and motor and the shifting is amazing!

The noise of the V10 is beyond good and the noise of shift down and slow down is equally as good as accelerating.

To make sure I got the right car I test drove an rs4 Audi first as I love them and it felt good, but the M5 is on another planet. One word sums it up epic!!!

Now I just have to wait a few days but I can manage that and then I need to get involved in some pistonheads events and start to enjoy it.

Congrats on the purchase. I drove an RS4 before going for the E60 M5 and agree that there is a night and day difference in performance between the two when you really push on. Nice colour choice as well.

Was going to go to that but the list is full.

Is the list just to get in the cafe parking so I can still just turn up?

The e39 was amazing but the e60 from 30mph onwards is amazing, and I have only drove it for about half hour on the test drive.

Now what exhaust do I get lol (must resist)

I have a feeling I am really going to enjoy this car and would be great to meet up with a few owners from here when the chance arrises

I've had my E39 M5 coming up for 4 yrs this June, use it less and less (1000 miles a year or so). Really fancy getting a E60 M5 but would like a low mileage that is high spec/ M6 wheels & no tinted rear side windows. Ones that meet my criteria seem to be 22k upwards. Got to part with my M5 1st but can't let go !

Look forward to seeing some pic's

Where did you buy it, BMW dealer/private/trader ?

Simon.

I also considered to move and tried an E60.Initially it blew me away but after a few more goes I wasn't so sure and getting back into the E39 reminded me why.

Quite simple, less is more and where the E60 is more the E39 is just bang right and this includes power/torque, ride handling, interior.

I can appreciate someone wanting a newer car but if your E39 is fettled it might be worth keeping a while longer.

Cosworth,

Mine was up for 22K given the immaculate history and fact it was a BMW AUC so comes with the benefits. The condition and history was better than some 40K cars so I am happy and I actually just sneaked in under 20K so very happy in the end. I would always go with the condition and how the car is treated so even 80K miles would not bother me as long as the right work was done at the right times and in the case of mine considerably more than needed to keep it mechanically sweet.

I am sure you know tho I would be scared to death without a warranty so AUC was the way forward for me.

If its something you are thinking about I can safely say that even after a 30 min test drive I was sold and cant see myself looking back.

Lomax,

I had an E39 M5 and my friend currently has a near concourse example that is stunning and they are fantastic cars and I would not ever suggest otherwise. I just think that the E60 raises the bar in terms of making the driving experience special.

Given the advantage of the newer tech I just found myself getting out of the E60 and being blown away, where as the E39 M5 I used to get out and think amazing car but it just got to the stage that it no longer blew me away.

Both the E39 M5 and E60 M5 both have there place and in the cold light of day they are both stunning in different ways and both will have a good following and rightly so.

You did get the 2nd year AUC warranty included didn't you?

It will save you a four figure sum in a years time.

Waved goodbye to my E39 M5 this morning. Was thinking of switching to a 4 door E90 M3 which I think would be a smaller like for like replacement but I'm not so sure now. E60 M5 is tempting, may have to go and drive one to see if I could get used to an SMG.

Agree the e90 m3 is def not a replacement for an e39 m5. Much more of a sports saloon vs über express. although even on outright speed it has the e39 beat.

I'd look at e60 m5 unless you want something more nimble and fun rather than designed for autobahns

Sumo, no I went for getting the best deal I could for the car to drive away rather tha grab a second year in the AUC.

You never know what's around the corner so much preferred to have the cash off at purchase rather than an additional year in the AUC warranty scheme.

I will always have the car under warranty so I am prepared for paying that next year, which is going to be about 1500 I think, without getting a quote now to confirm.

Cosworth, yes I managed to get it off, which was good but in all honestly I think they must have been about to drop the price as it had been there for a couple of weeks so I think they wanted it shifting. You never really know but I think for a 57 plate with the service history it has I managed to do very well. I guess time will confirm if that's the case.
