My M5 is in getting painted and the front screen has to come out.
Its not in the best condition so it would be nice to fit a new one but I have heard horror stories about the fit of aftermarket screens. Has anyone used one?

Also, does anyone know if insurance/glass cover would stump up for a genuine screen? There are some really bad chips in it which will probably crack when its disturbed.

After doing a bit of research, it appears that most people don't really bother and have had good quality (Pilkington etc) aftermarket screens fitted with no problems.

Personally I would want to be keeping an M5 as genuine as possible. That said, Pilkington do make a decent copy but if you don't mind an aftermarket copy, Saint Gobain [Sekurit] a very good brand.

The screen can be removed intact.

Refitting/replacing is straight forward however, if the screen isn't 'set' correctly, they can suffer from horrendous wind noise.

How much was your policy limit?

Strangely I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning, I've had mine repaired a few times and it looks like it's been shot blasted in most areas.
I'll be following this discussion for the outcome.

No idea, they didn't ask..I think it's a common request but they don't like to advertise it as they would rather supply the cheaper screens.

Talk to your insurer direct. Don't go through the switchboard options - talk to customer services.

There are circumstances to which they will potentially agree for an OEM screen and usually, your preferred supplier. A lot is down to how well you put your case forward; sometimes it's down to who you get to speak to.

Stuart Cooper at Fourdon.
He uses Scotglass but they don't recognise my insurer.
It looks like I will just have to fork out the full amount.
As the screen will have to be out for a period of time.

Can't the screen be stored somewhere??

Hmm, I don't think you're following.
The screen will likely break as it is being removed as it is damaged at the moment. wink
Hence if that were to happen I would need to claim on my glass cover but as the screen would need to be out for a couple of days I don't think my insurance company would be too happy about coming to replace a screen to be told, just leave it there and come back next week to fit it.
A bit suspicious no?

Sorry, I was still with the existing screen.
