Just a quick heads up !!

Just renewed my insurance, Last year paid 1233 for all singing and dancing cover. This year renewed with Adrian Flux for 659 !!! All the same cover and 200 less excess. Best current insurer could offer was 835.

Just thought this may help if shopping around for good cheap policy.

1200 but with one claim in April this year and 6 points.

I'll be careful for a year or two to get it down.

I haven't tried Tesco yet but from a morning's hunting around for a policy expiring next week the results so far:

Adrian Flux: £659
Performance direct: £542
LV: £387 without protected no claims, £415 with.
Direct line: £377 without PNC, £420 with but required a tracker or else no theft cover.
Aviva: £360 with protected no claims, £350 excess and legal cover. £30 further discount if I insure the second car with them.

All the above are without a hire car and on fairly low mileage, 6000-10000 per year.

It's a big difference in prices, I was expecting better from Adrian Flux, perhaps they are better for modified cars.

I'll try Tesco but have been very impressed with Aviva for the past year.

I'm 42, 10 years no claims and car is garaged overnight.

Edited to say that I've just had a Tesco quote for £451!! Aviva it is then.

With Aviva, try using Quidco.

You'll need an account and to book the insurance with Aviva through their site, but they're currently offering £70 cash back. It'll normally take about 3 months to get the money.

Every little helps !!

Not bad, and 5 years younger too. Seems you truly are the gifted one! Mind I'm paying about 360 for the e39 with business intergalactic miles included and work pay for petrol so swings and roundabouts!

Believe it or not it is cheaper by far to leave the car on the road overnight rather than garage or driveway......

I think the thinking behind this is a car paled on the street could belong to any household, therefore the recent rise in thefts with keys are not so straightforward as a car parked in a drive/garage

Certainly Direct Line do not discriminate against the parking location, it is purely based on post code with no loading for on-street parking and no reduction for garaged.

It make a £50 difference to my quote £340 < £390.

They also mentioned the amount of claims from people that ding it on gate posts/ garage etc.

The theft element makes sense as well.
