Annoyingly my E60 M5 was stolen straight from my drive last night with no key.

I had just sold it yesterday.

Just a note to others that these cars are being targeted.

Didn't this happen a couple of weeks ago, when two guys came to look at a car?

Russellp125 thats awful. Hope they catch the mothers man. What is wrong with these people. A damn good deterent is needed like hands being chopped off. A bit extreme but surely something like that is needed. I hope the police find it for you. Did you have a tracker system on it.

Hi there.

So sorry to hear this mate. Can I ask if you'd had it taken in by BMW for the recent security update?

Cheers,

It had been in with BMW on Friday having a health check so I presume everything would have been done then.

That's really worrying. Whole point was that they were supposed to be updating the system so you needed an original key to. Programme a new one via the ODB port!

Going to disconnect my ODB input pin tonight I think..

Did you at any point leave the key in the hands of any of the prospective buyers?

I am just finding out that this is a known issue!!

If I had known about it I would have (a) Had it fixed or (b) Been even more (don't know how I could be) conscious of the viewers.

Some people seem to just need a sight of the V5 to obtain a key.

Yes but the subscription had lapsed (the insurance company knew this).

Called them and asked them to turn it on but they refused.

Thats not good.

I couldn't find anybody to insure me without a tracker, hope your insurance co really are happy that you let it lapse.

Hope it works out for you.

Hey Cheburator,

Could you PM me what you know? I'm deciding asap what I'm going to do - re-site the port - remove wiring etc.

I seem to remember you knew a company that was doing fixes?

Cheers!

I would think Police could force their hand on the tracker. It could be used to help fight a known crime therefore refusing to operate would surely be hindering the course of justice (can't think of the correct terminology)?

This is indeed the case. Someone on M3Cutters was saying this the other day. Their car was stolen with a lapsed Tracker subscription. They phoned Tracker who weren't interested as their subscription had run out. The Police contacted Tracker and forced them to activate the tracker and the car was found.
