Handing back my E92 in the next week or so after 2.5 years of awesome motoring. Absolutely loved the car but the money can now be used for more important things right now, like mortgage deposits!

So, I'm getting a few windscreen chips sorted on friday (for free presumably) and having my Eisenmann Race Exhaust swapped back with an OEM one (Exhaust will be for sale tomorrow if anyone is interested).

This leaves :

- 2 alloy wheels which need diamond edge cutting and repolishing (Usual kerbing on them).
- Boot floor panel replaced which was scuffed back to the plastic panel material

I've been quoted as 110+VAT for the two wheels to get done, which involves me taking half a day out as well as 30-40 quids worth of petrol to drive to the place to get them done.

Now, am I going to gain anything by doing all this before they come and get the car back, or is it not worth my effort and hassle if they will just bill me for a reasonable amount which I'm more than prepared to do. Obviously if they come back saying 200 quid per wheel and beyond then it's worth me making the effort.

Anyone handed an M3 back which needed a few things tidying?

You would be well advised to get the work done yourself and to return the car on its best possible condition.

But get the work done right or you will pay twice!!

BMW will follow the SMMT code of practice regarding fair wear and tear, if the wheels have nasty big lumps out of them get them done, slight abrasions aren't an issue in my experience.

Fair wear and tear is acceptable, can you not phone the lease company/BMW to talk through the issues first?

I may be interested in the Eisenmann Race Exhaust - Cost? Location?

Cheers

True enough. It's making me wonder about fixing the scuff on the rear alloy which is probably an inch in total - The front one I can say definitely needs sorting.

I've just listed the exhaust here on Pistonheads if you want to check my profile for a link. The car is in the garage right this moment getting the old one put back on, so it's ready to be loved by it's new owner.

BMW should have sent you a leaflet detailing what's acceptable. There are rules on scratch sizes and kerb marks etc.

I handed my 650 back to them and the collection driver was a legend. I think his eye sight was a bit poor that day wink

I'm interested to know how this goes - please update!

Essentially i'm thinking of doing the same thing, despite loving the car. I can get a brand new one cheaper than the PCP deal i'm on.

I'm 50% through and thus am considering handing back - but I have several wheel scraps and minor cosmetic stuff.

WOndering if i'll get shafted.........

New boot floor bought from the spares department today for 90 pounds inc vat

That leaves the two alloys and the windscreen that are getting sorted.

BIG PLUS : The GAP insurance i was sold, ended up being worth it in the end as the paint protection cover meant I got 500 pounds of paint repairs covered a few months ago.

I'd say the car is in great condition for a 5 year old with 48k on the clock that I treated like it was properly mine. Will be interesting to see what they come back with.

curious on the windscreen............surely stone chips are wear and tear?

As long as they aren't in the drivers line of sight, then ones that have been 'repaired' are considered wear and tear.

So i'm getting mine done for the 25 pound excess, to get me (hopefully) to that point.

OP, why are you handing it back on a PCP? Nothing wrong with it, I did the same with an X5 that had a balloon due of £17k and was worth £12k, but have you checked that you have no equity in it?

No chance. Not in this market would I want to bother trying to sell it.

2008, 5 owners (inc me), Manual, no EDC (Which people say you need but I didn't find it added much when i had an M3 hire car), 47k on the clock. I was betting on getting 20k at absolute best from it, but the settlement figure from BMW would have been 23k. I'd probably spend the same money handing it back than I would have had to trying to sell it.

Shame, as she spent 2.5 years with me, despite being through 4 hands in the 18 months previous, so I looked after her properly.

Ah, ok. I did think I was probably stating the obvious. Have a look here:

that's my biggest problem too..........don't want test pilots, idiots, 'what's yer best price bruv' brigade anywhere near it or me.

I'm too busy to deal with fools.

Sending it back is the easiest, and cheapest option. Even if it costs a few quid putting the odd thing back to new on it.

Sad state of affairs I guess. Just the nature of selling cars these days. Too much scum.

12-24 months time and these will be at the same price point where everyone bundled into E46 M3's and lowered them 2 inches and put wheel spacers on.

Haha, what I failed to add was that my first M3 was an E46 bought at precisely the same time wink

Update. Car was taken away today.

Had both alloys diamond cut last week, boot floor replaced, full valet done. Total cost about 400 quid to get that done.

Guy doing the inspection today made very positive comments on the condition of the car saying it was in excellent condition and obviously very well cared for. Because of that, he was NOT going to report a few chips and the like which were on panel crease lines which would be expensive to sort out.

The total came to

1. Windscreen chip in drivers line of sight - 40 quid
2. Scrape on bottom of front bumper - 25 quid

Really pleased with that. Obviously I have 10k miles of excess mileage to pay (!) which goes to show how much I enjoyed the car, and then a few months of car payments to make to get me to the 50% point.

All in all, a pleasant experience, apart from a few weeks running around booking in the wheels getting diamond cut, the new boot floor on order, swapping the exhaust over etc.

How does this PCP plan work could you tell me the costs involved? i.e Deposit invoice and monthly.

Thanks
