A good friend is currently in the market for a used M3 coupe with a budget of around £33k. Ideally he will be buying an AUC car as he wants to trade in his 320d and would also like a bmw warranty.

What's the market like for these cars at present? What type of discounts are people getting from main dealers?

Any thoughts on this would be grateful as he wants to know how much he can haggle and if there some good deals to be done.

Thanks

Cheib

It's impossible to generalise.....cars with good spec, in a desirable colour sensibly priced will always sell quickly in the context of the market. If your friend is flexible on spec and doesn't mind unusual colours he can probably get a great deal but then he will have trouble selling the car in a few years time. What can make a massive difference is how long a dealer has had a car, where they are against their targets and whether it's near quarter end.

You will almost always get the best deal as a cash buyer, the fact he has a car to sell and wants an AUC warranty (very sensible) means he has less room for negotiation. If he can he'll get a better deal selling his car privately...it also means he can look at cars further away as part exchanging cars with dealers at the other end of the country is a logistical nightmare. HTH.
