RELUCTOR, NOT REDACTOR - D'OH!

So,

a good few weeks back I had issues with the car when making my usual commute WSM > Exeter, M5

Cruise set at motorway speeds and out of nowehere the car started hunting back and forth around 10MPH+/- and the traction control was spinning up.

Called AA and took it to a local garage who diagnosed tyres as the issue, which I had my doubts about but followed their advice.

Problem continued (also had ABS lights, SMG cog of doom, almost everything!), so this time had it sent to my usual guy by AA loader.

Turns out it was the redactor rings attached to the drive shaft that had corroded to such a point they impacted the DSC control.

Oriidinarily, from BMW this would mean a new drive shaft for eeach side at £480+ each as you have to buy the entire unit to get the ring.

However, found the website ReluctorRings.com who sell the rings (made in house) seperately at £43.58 (Ex VAT) each.

My indy (Stu at Forza West - highly respected both on here and elsewhere) rated the quality of the units very highly and is intending to use them in the future (you can see a photo of them in place on his FB page "Forza West").

I spoke to Gavin at the suppliers yesterday and he's happy to give PH'ers 10% discount when mentioning Pistonheads at the point of order.

I think as these cars get older we'll see a lot more of this issue (mine is 157k on a 54')

Ah fk,

Sounds a lot like the problems I've been having with mine, I've been getting round it by turning the traction control off, not getting quite the same warning lights as you either, but cheers for the advice on where to get the parts, just in case it is that!
