Retrofitting DAB - and loud speaker system too?
Discussion
Hi - i saw at vines in guildford that you can retrofit DAB for 299 at the moment (interestingly 21 quid cheaper than on the 1m options list i checked!), does anyone know if you can retrofit the loudspeaker system as well? Standard stereo is a little too weedy, and i miss the ability to flip between radios 4, 5, 6 and XFM... dAB will happen next service, thinking of a stereo upgrade too but interested in any first hand experience...
Cheers

Pretty sure the retrofit DAB isn't a patch on the system you'd spec from new, which is a head unit with DAB rather than an add-on box.
The best retrofit for improving audio on 1 and 3 series was always the Alpine kit that BMW sell for about £350 nowadays, you can fit it yourself in about 4 hours, obviously paying a dealer to do it will cost a fair bit given the fitting time. I might have one coming up for sale second hand in a few weeks if you're interested, you must be reasonably local to me too if Vines is your local dealer.

Thanks fella - i'd never trust my own skills on something that might damage the motor, so would need to be fitted by somebody - Looks like bmw charge another 350 to fit though, which seems excessive. The best retrofit for improving audio on 1 and 3 series was always the Alpine kit that BMW sell for about £350 nowadays, you can fit it yourself in about 4 hours, obviously paying a dealer to do it will cost a fair bit given the fitting time. First service isn't due till november so plenty of time to wait and car only a few weeks new to me, so the engine noise still preferred to radio 4 for now. When the time comes i'll ping you to see if still around - although vines is a out 90 mins away from me so doubt i'm local (wanted best car, not location

No worries, a car audio shop would be able to fit it easily enough and probably charge less than half that. Thinking about it though I think there's a slightly different model of the Alpine kit for newer cars later than about 2010, so I don't think mine would be the right one for your car anyway.

This is not the retrofit option but as if the DAB was installed at the factory.
