Speccing up a new car and would like any views from people who have heard the B&O stereo. It's quite pricey but I enjoy my music in the car.

Not worth the investment, fact. I would look at what is available elsewhere and spec your own system, especially speakers and amps. The B&O wont add value when you sell and there is better equipment available out there for less money.

Thanks, I'm not worried about adding the value but just want a decent sound.

Everyones ears are different, have a listen yourself and make your own mind up.

You could go the aftermarket route, but high end equipment and fitting doesn't come cheap either, and the factory option is fully integrated and designed for the application from the get go.

If it sounds as good as the Individual set up in E92 M3's then I would definitely tick the box.

I have a feeling that finding a car with it fitted to listen to first may prove difficult. Perhaps a call to BMW UK tomorrow is needed. If it can come close to the sound in the RR it is worth every penny.

I assume there's no Harmon Kardon option? If you can afford the B&O then go for it. Who wants an M5 ripping apart retrofitting stereo equipment!

An unequivocal yes!

I was asking the same question last week so went out on Saturday to get a listen to the B&O system and also the "individual" system available on the M3. I wasn't expecting much as I've always found BMW "premium" audio systems to the worst of the auto manufactures, I had the HK system in my previous M3's and the L7 in my M5, neither of which have particularly impressed me. Certainly not a patch on the Burmester system in the Panamera I heard a few months back which was superb!

Anyhow, I'm pleased to report that the B&O system is superb. Great midrange clarity, nice fast, solid bass - none of the one note muddy thud that the Logic7 puts out, and very detailed highs without any grain, glare or harshness. BMW/B&O have obviously worked hard with the DSP to get it right and it created a really spacious sound that images nicely. I really think you'd have to spend a LOT of money on aftermarket kit to get a noticeable improvement and do I really want the ball ache of pulling the car to bits when the B&O is so good? In a word, no. Plus you'd lose the cool B&O tweeter popping out of the dash wink

I was also mightily impressed with the individual audio, a massive improvement on the HK in the M3. I'd definitely tick that box.

I heard the B & O system in a 7 series in the museum in Munich, its superb. I have H&K in my 1series which is really good. The standard system in the 5 sounds nothing in comparison to B&O or HK, I think the B&O is a step or 2 above the H&K.
Personally would struggle with paying the extra new, Id search for it used, but then it will be missing other stuff you want.
If you really appreciate your music and can afford it spec it, you wont be disappointed.

As a musician I love my music------ but I'd rather listen to the car when driving fast-----so I don't have the music on much smile

Yeah but in the M5 the engine sounds are 'piped' anyway. Might as well have it in 7:1 then ....

Engine sounds pretty sweet to me piped or not.

My experience of sports/supercar ownership is I prefer to listen to the car. The M5 is a daily drive for me at the moment and I rarely put the sounds on.

My favourite sounding car was a GT3 howling to the red line------- beat the Fezza even with a much louder Tubi exhaust.

ICE doesn't matter to me at he moment-------- the car is entertaining enough!

Don't know! Can you turn it up? Save having the sunroof and windows open!

I agree up to a point, but I found the F10 sound a little uninspiring compared the the E60 - although it won't stop me getting one! I never bothered with a stereo in the 355 with Capristo, as the sound was so spine-tingling, but even the M5's V10 is quiet in traffic wink so B&O is definitely a option box tick for me!
