E60 M5 - Slight leak from diff and gearbox
Discussion
I've got a 2005 E60 M5 which recently went into a BMW dealer for new front discs and pads. It's not my normal dealer as the one near work offered a 20% discount which is a substantial saving when the job costs £1K!
Anyhow, they did the work, but have noted a slight leak from the diff and gearbox. They want the car in for three days to investigate and fix. It's all covered by the BMW warranty so minimal cost (the excess) to myself.
They have said, if they drop the gearbox to investigate the leak, they can check the clutch (I still think it's original at 56,000 miles) and replace at minimal cost to myself if it's worn.
The car was recently at my normal dealer and they never noticed a leak. I've looked under the car and on the floor where the car is parked. There is no evidence of any leaks. The car drives absolutely fine and no abnormal noises from the diff. Gearbox is fine apart from the usual SMG jerkiness.
So, my question is, do you think they are creating work for themselves here? I'm worried they won't put the car back together right. Seems weird giving my car to them for three days when IMHO there's nothing actually wrong with it!

So are they saying that in effect they'll do the clutch/flywheel for the price of the parts only? I guess it all depends on how long you want to keep the car for and the current state of the clutch. I'm thinking labour for clutch is about a grand, BMW parts another grand/1500?
Some of us got clutches done under warranty (me at 56k), but some haven't and it's a 3 grand job if done at a dealer, 1500 at an indy. Indy might not be a good idea due to Mondial complications etc.
I'd seriously consider their offer.

If you don't mind me asking how did you get your clutch done under warranty? Mine's on 40k miles. PM me if you prefer.
