Z4M at Knockhill - Second Trackday
Discussion
I had my Z4M Roadster back at Knockhill yesterday for another trackday. Some may remember that I started a thread last month after my very first trackday and stating that I really wasn't happy with the cars handling. Well for this trackday I changed the rear tyres to Michelin Pilot Super Sports and put new OEM disks all round and Bluestuff NDX Race pads all round. As per norm at Knockhill, it was lashing rain so I wasn't feeling too optimistic about the day after my last experience on track in the wet. However, the car is utterly tranformed since ditching the ditch finder tyres and uprating the brakes. I could not got the rear to step out at all with the traction control on, the car would just understeer. Previously, even with the traction control on, the car would try and spit me out of every corner facing the wrong way. The car went extremely well and did not miss a bit. In the right hands the car is very quick round track and I can't wait to try it out on a dry day. NExt job on the list is to change the front tyres to Super Sports to try and dial out the cronic understeer I was experiencing.
Here is a video of my friend (ClarkyboyS on here) taking me out in my car and showing me how I should be driving it.

At approx 2.08 we almost got rear ended by a 1M due to a car practically stopping after the chicane. Clark made easy work of it once we got going again.
There were a few race prepped E46 M3's there also which I had some good fun with. My other videos are uploading to YouTube so I will post them once uploaded. Unfortunately my driving skills are no where even close to Clark's so the videos of me driving are not quite so entertaining.

And to balance it, here is some pretty crappy driving from myself towards the end of the day

Thought I had better join in,
Just wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to drive your lovely car round the track in such inherent conditions,
It really was a blast, you have bought an utter gem there, it feels so tight and smooth as it should do, I think you will notice a huge difference as soon as you get new tyres on the front, it was evident that the rears had so much more grip than the fronts did in those conditions! that said, getting it sideways was not such an issue!
Ryan, good to meet you also, the little 1M was lovely, and I have your reactions to thank for coming along side me under braking out of the chicane and not into the back of me as it could have so easily been a horrid result!
Im not sure exactly what was going on ahead but yes, we were faced with a car practically stopped on the track which was less than ideal!!
I had the chance to get a bit of drifting in during the race on Sunday in the M3 also.. see below.. haha

Hey mate!
Lovely to see a Z4M out on track, I was up there and spotted you a couple of times (including some sideways action!) I was in the Silver E46 M3, I was curious as to how the Z4 went, glad to see you felt it went OK. Car sounded great btw, looked proper quick too!
Edit: here is my perspective, I think you might pass me in this clip, can't remember

nice video! Clark chap can drive, i remember seeing him blat around in an E30 318is from memory a few years ago.. also sounds like he is from my part of the wuruld.
Was hoping to make it myself but left it too late to book, are you along on the 3rd July night session?
I am also in a silver E46 M3, and also changed tyres after my first session in fairly work Pzeros. Now sporting 585RSRs so will see how they fair...
I was getting huge oversteer at the hairpin with my rather worn Pzeros,

Is that Kev's S54 E36? Have you bought it or just borrowing it? I've not spoken to him in a while. Just wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to drive your lovely car round the track in such inherent conditions,

Nice driving and great videos! I was behind you for a few laps in a white 1M. Pace was awesome.
Apologies about the little mishap btw. I wasn't that close beforehand but as you say some eejit decided to come to a near complete stop! Wasn't expected.
Ryan, lovely 1M you have. I tried to catch up with you in the pits/paddock but I must have kept missing you. You were going really well, and certainly looked to be having some fun coming out of the hairpin :-) Apologies about the little mishap btw. When you were behind, that was Clark driving. I would have been nowhere near as quick haha. It must have been a great view from behind. You didn't happen to get any footage did you?

I think we kept missing each other on track, either I was just heading into the pits or you were. I got a really good few laps chasing the white E46 M3 with the big wing on the back. Wasn't much in it, but after looking at some photos I can see an intercooler hiding behind the grill so I am wondering what is lurking under the bonnet.Lovely to see a Z4M out on track, I was up there and spotted you a couple of times (including some sideways action!) He can indeed, can't he! I won't be there unfortunately as I'm going on holiday on Thursday. I'm dying to get back on track. Those tyres are supposed to be pretty good. Was hoping to make it myself but left it too late to book, are you along on the 3rd July night session?

Thanks mate. Pity you never caught up with me as I'd of liked a nose round the Z, they are mean! Was certainly having some fun out there, my first outing at Knockhill with the car that I've been looking forward to for a while.
Unfortunately I didn't get any footage when I was behind you. I was sharing my friends go pro with him and only used it for two sessions.
