E61 m5 driver door lock vandalised
Discussion
My e61 m5 seems to have been the object of some idiots attentions last night. The cylinder lock appears to be missing from the drivers side door lock. All done very tidily with copious amounts of grease. I am now worried they will come back tonight to finish the job and break into the car.
Does anyone know
Is this an easy / known way to break in? ie do these people know what they are doing or does it sound like a chancer who failed and won't return ?
So irritating , the car has a tracker so they wont drive off too far and nothing in it apart from a Charlie and Lola cd !
Cheers

Hey Abidr, (sorry we missed each other on the track day? Sounds like your clutch went and I had to go on a business trip)
This sounds more like they knew what they were doing - have you had the ODB port disconnected and the BMW update? In which case they they won't be able to do anything without the key anyway.
Oh - and always park it in gear (the car warns you if you don't anyway). The beauty of our SMG gearboxes is that there is nothing you can then do to get it out of gear. Good luck to anyone who tries to roll it onto a low loader...

Yes shame about the track day . I thought my clutch was toast but it seems to have recovered
ML had it for a few days and couldn't find anything wrong with it, so phew!
Back to the vandals
They (ML) did organise the BMW update but I don't think I have had the port disabled/ moved
I shall talk to them about it tomorrow
Did you have the port disalbled stickers made up or have the contact for obtaining one?

They were made by a guy who then gave them away. He's on the general bmw's being stolen thread in the general bmw section. I'll try and dig out his details.
If you search for disable odb port you can find lots of ways to do it from hiding/moving it to disconnecting pins. ML should be able to do it in a jiffy.

This was a professional(s) at wrk. What they have tried to do is activate the windows down function by smashing the lock. For some reason it does not work very well on our Tourings. The reasons I know this - my E61 M5 has been lock-less for 3 months now. Unfortunately, they also smashed the window trying to gain access to the OBD port. The update would not stop them. The only way to do it is to disable the port. Then however, you potentially run the risk of the scumbags breaking into your home at night to force you to give up the keys...Does anyone know

Incidentally - is yours a black one, and were you around Chislehurst last Saturday? Saw my first E61 Touring in 2yrs of ownership... So excited, forgot to wave at the driver...
Cheburator,
Great!
Im not sure what the answer is to stop them coming back and trying again
Im going to disable the port and have the lock replaced.
Steering wheel lock? a bit old school but im not sure what else i can do!
maybe a tracker sticker with the port disabled sticker
my window will look ridiculous.
Why have you left the lock unrepaired by the way?
And mine is blue im afraid so it wasnt me !

Because it gives them one less point of access... The central locking works. I am actually thinking of getting a LHD handle and not having a lock on the car at all. Will have leads off my Citek on the battery so that it can always be charged if car is left standing and it goes flat....Why have you left the lock unrepaired by the way?

I guess you'd open the boot with the key and hook it straight up to the battery.
unlike the e60, the e61 only has one lock barrel on the car - driver's door... if use citek leads - it will be the special one, with the waterproof connector, neatly tucked behind the front bumper, so no one knows and looks standard...Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
