E36 front fan won't turn off

Eeek. Battery keeps going flat. Now noticed the fans at the very front of the car (ones you can see through the kidney grill) dont turn off when ignition is turned off 
Continue to not turn themselves off until car goes flat.
Anyone else had similar problems with e36? A quick google search indicates it could be a faulty relay switch or the car thinking it needs to cool the engine when it really doesn.t
