Evening,,

After about 3 months of deliberation I have decided to get the h&s back boxes on my e60 m5.

Was hard to choose as the sound bites on the net are not the best for h&s at WOT but in general bang for buck seemed good and I think the noise is going to be about right, in the fact it's more pronounced than standard but not asbo loud.

Was going to go muffler delete but I have had skylines, evos and subarus really loud and just wanted the m5 to sound more impressive without being like the fore mentioned. Also looked at eisenmann any although amazing not the overall theme I was trying for lol. I really hope the h&s is impressive enough under load.

Time will tell if I have one the right route.

Reviews seem scarce for the h&s on e60 m5 so has anyone anymore experience?

Yup, both Phelix and I had H&S systems fitted to our E61 M5s. Very pleased with the results i must say. Not OTT but defo gets the sound levels up to where you'd want them. Highly rated!

Thanks for that I must admit yours was the only real review I could find and helped me decide but it's a small gamble as the videos on the net only really show them when not under load.

Compared to standard I am sure I will love it

I have them on the E39 M5. Brutal when the engine's cold and awesome at very low and 3000+rpm. Check out Clark's video of before I bought the car off him, shot in a tunnel in Spain I believe:

No idea how they sound E60/61, let us know how you get on.

Very popular on the E39, and from what I can make out on Youtube quite a different sound to the E60/1...

I've had H&S fitted for about 7 years and still love it... plus they are guaranteed for as long as you own the car...

I agree difference in sound to the v8 and v10 are huge but on the e39 the h and s is basically a muffler delete where as on the e60/1 it actually still uses a back box.

I think it keeps the standard sound just cranks the volume up to some degree.

I do like the muffler delete a lot but given what I have had before I wanted a slightly quiter sound but not standard quiet.

Sounds more race car-esque and gains a bit of crackle and pop on the overrun. Its not just a cranked up OEM box, it actually sounds good. Howls like a good'un when going for it.

Sounds good to me and looks like I made the correct choice

I liked the muffler delete and the eisnemann on you tube but thought the h&s sounded slight deeper and more controlled sound but hats just on you tube.

I'd love to see / hear a video once you have them fitted please. My mate had them on his E39 M5 and they sounded awesome but like you, sound bites on tinterweb of them fitted on an E60 are few and far between and quite limited.

Because of this, I set my heart on a Corsa Performance system (amazing) but the $825 shipping fee from USA was just mental. I would consider H&S if I could just find out what they're like on the V10.

Well my phone will not do it justice as I have tried however I am really happy.

Cold start is noiser but for 2 minutes does not bother me and I don't leave the house at 3am often so guess the neighbours won't mind.

Warm tick over it is only slightly louder but is a deeper tone, which sounds much better IMO.

Between 2-5k rpm it is amazing sound and perfect in my view especially with windows down. With the windows up it is louder than standard but not excessive.

Between 5k rpm and limit is is just nice and IMO it enhances the std sound into what a car of this performance should be.

Overall if you want a purely loud exhaust then I would say others are best but if you want a more race sounding exhaust that is not excessive then it's perfect.

Friends following have said it sounds like a Lamborghini / Ferrari now compared to a quiet bmw before and I guess that is the issue with the M5, because the sound proof and windows etc are so good if you want it to sound like a race car all the time with the windows up then it has to be one of the very loud systems / muffler delete.

I have had many performance vehicles (skylines, evos, old m5, subarus, escorts to name a few) and this is now the bets sounding car I have ever had IMO and if I had a choice again I would buy the h & s system again so I am happy.

Where are you based?

Great review Lee - am tempted to do this for my E61 after Eddie's experience as well. If you do get the chance to record it, please post!

Would love to hear a video of this, including cold starts etc...

Quite like the idea of it but worried about upsetting the neighbours with early morning starts...

Have a look on youtube under m5 touring hayward and scott:-

My car was the first touring to have this exhaust...its the actual car pictured on their website. The vid shows a cold start. Its loud but not silly loud.
