Not sure if anyone can help diagnose this: my M3 has the following symptoms, when putting the car into gear the clutch feels ok (can feel that is disengaging the engine) and the gear stick movement feels ok. When I let the clutch up, about halfway through its travel, the gear stick tries to come out of gear, accompanied by a grinding of teeth noise. If you force the gear stick to stay in place, push the clutch down and let it up again slowly, it goes into gear.

Does this sound like new gearbox time, it's done 122k miles?

Thanks!

Worn detent maybe the issue, but yes gearbox rebuild time by the sounds of it, although if there is wear in the linkage and the gear is not being selected fully you may also have this issue, but my money would probably be on detent issues.

Changed the gearbox oil for new BMW MTF LT2, took it for a run. Now all fine! Not sure if I have just delayed something expensive. Happy now, because I am off next week!
