Its been a fews years since i have been able to have a car that excites me. The mrs passed her driving test a couple of years ago and with the arrival of our son we ended up with a mundane hatchback that bores me sensless. However due to having a little more dissposable income and mrs having a lot more experience we've decided to get something we want.

Been a little torn between mercs c63 amg and bmw's m3. The merc is lovley but just a bit to much money for me to be happy with. So have started to concetrate more on looking at m3. Went to listers today and had a good chat and took one of the cars out which was simply incredible. The last m3 i drove was the E36 shape and wow this felt another level completely. I was massivley impressed with how comfortable it was and how it put its power down.

We've crunched some figures that im comfortable with but im not sure the car was the one i wanted. I want to buy a car that im happy with not just a deal that suits. Its early days in my research so thought i'd ask owners who are more experienced in these decisions. Is there any colours to avoid and what are the must have toys as this one didnt have as much spec as others. Also the car i drove was a manual. Is that the one to go for as they had an auto there aswell. Is it just personal choice?

Drive a DCT too, i'm not a big fan of Manual BMW's and the box on the M3 one isn't great, however the DCT box is stunning and worth of the great engine...

It is a personal opinion. I had an e46 m3 manual for 5 years and when I got my e92 m3 from new went for the manual again. 73k miles in and still loving the manual. I just like going through the gears (via box) in a fast car! Some will give plaudits to both, there is no right choice, just your preference.
