Entirely normal.
Driving normally, i.e. not redlining, the temp will fluctuate between about 70-80. As soon as you start working the engine and the gears, the needle will climb to 90-100. Motorway driving even at high speeds at relatively constant revs and it will drop down a bit. The hot weather will have undoubtedly had an impact.

I know it is not the same but I have an e36 328 track car with a lower temperature stat fitted, on normal driving it sits around 1/3 of the way up the gauge. On track it gets to just over half way, even in the winter!
I don't think you have a problem, but keep an eye out for any long term changes in temperature trends obviously.
