So the Contract on my A8 Exec is up in October so am looking now for a possible replacement.

Wishing to keep Cont Hire payments in line with what i've been paying for my A8 & this brings into play the F10 M5 & C63 '507 (waiting for Audi, Jag & Range Rover to quote).

I did own an E60 M5 for a while a few years ago, but never really got on with the poor traction on UK roads as was always a struggle to make progress in less than perfect weather conditions & of course the p1ss poor range so sold & went for a B7 RS4, followed by a GT-R. Being drawn to the new M5 due to the current sub £500 per month deals about & quite fancy another visit into M territory.

How is the read world on road experience of the F10 compared to the E60? Also as most of my driving consists of long schleps from Lancs to Suffolk every couple of weeks, what's the real world MPG at a steady 80mph motorway cruise? To keep within budget i'd likely have to order a car with totally standard spec but i assume this provides most of the creature comforts?

Will also be considering the new S6/7, new RR & RRS & a cheeky draw to the new Jag F Type, however being so new & in demand with the same applying to the new RR & RRS, i feel these will be out of reach for this change.

Thanks in advance

Like you I have had loads of fast stuff (although never owned a E60 m5 too many issues) and I really rate the F10 M5

Traction will always be an issue. I came from a 700bhp+ RS6 to the F10 M5 and love it. The Audi was mental in a straight line but that was it for me. This thing is a great car. Loaded with toys, even if you go low spec it has just about everything you will ever need.

I am off down to Ednibugh tomorrow for its break in service. 50 miles A roads then just over 100 dual carriageway will sit at 80 so will report back tomorrow but mid to high 20's is easy.

Wife got just under 30mpg the other day driving around 60 mph. Excellent as my RS never seen over 20 even with wife driving.

I reckon you need to go drive them all but I have no regrets buying the M5

Love the look of the new RR but just needed one last fast car before I accept I am getting old lol

The F10 is easier to live with than the E60 doing the daily grind.

The ability to change settings is great and can transform the character of the car at the press of a button in a very effective way.

Even in comfort, I feel the suspension is rather on the stiff side.

I've set M1 up in sport all the way, in S2 and MDM.

M2 is set up in sport plus, in S3 and with DSC off.....love that!

Grip is huge and some provocation is needed to get slip in the dry.

You can add weight to the steering, but it lacks feel.

The F10 is brutally fast, but I'd still take my E60 over it for a good drive, where that V10 really comes into its own.

Thanks. Just what i'd hoped & does make the deals offered on the F10 M5 appear very attractive.

Had another car thrown into the mix now as mega deals popping up on the E63 AMG, which i feel from a Merc perspective i'd be alot happier with that the C63.

Alas the new RR & RRS are way out of budget as demand is far outweighing supply & the same applies to the F Type Jag, so they're now off the listfrown

Will try to jump in an M5 for a test drive tomorrow & the E63 next week as i feel it will come down to these 2 with the possibility of an S6/7 if Audi want to play & offer a decent enough deal.

First 50 miles on the "A" road was a bit spirited ( running late) nothing mental 21.8 mpg did not reset the trip. Then 120 miles at 80. Trip reading 25.6mpg on arrival. 3 in car with boot full of luggage

Tomorrow I will see what if does on the motorway at a steady 80. Should be better given no "A" road bit, but it's always uphill on the way home lol

Scooby, same deals as available on the F10 M5, around £490 plus vat on a 6+23 profile. The deals i've spotted appear to be Business only.

I've never managed to work out why Business only on some vehicles as apart from the VAT being reclaimable for relevant businesses, i see know reason why a consumer can't pay VAT without it being a business as we do that with other purchases every day of our lives.

Just had a customer in for his 1200 mile service and at steady 80 got 27.8mpg. Standard spec is great on the M5,and now with the I drive controller.

I drove from South Wales to the Lake District last week and averaged 27 mpg at motorway speeds. However several days driving around the Lakes has seen it drop to 22mpg. Quite impressive considering the performance on offer.

journey home. Again 3 up and boot of gear.

Steady 80, no blasting past cars etc. 28.4mpg. Once I had the odd blast and a bit of a play it settled @ 27.3mpg traveling 120 miles

Back home again 25.2mpg but it was the dreaded "A" road that did the damage and my right foot getting bored lol.

Excellent figures considered the mental car that it is.

Comparing the same journey with the RS6 it did 18.7mpg, that is a huge improvement.

My LCI being picked up 1st September, MBC with Extended Silverstone, most extras but NO comp pack.

It sounds like the MPG will be better than my E90 M3.

Afternoon, how's you?

Was considering another GT-R to replace the A8 mobile living room come change time in Oct, but still not the right time to have a 2 door as need the wife to change her car 1stfrown

Will be over at Spa & Nordschleife in October in oddly enough my old GT-R which should be a giggle as never tracked that car in Europe, just UK.

Pretty sure i've narrowed my selections down to the E63 AMG or F10 M5 for this change as although the A8 has been superb (as what it does best), i fancy something with a touch more venom without breaking the bank or losing some practicality.

Thanks for the replies, really useful feedback.

Although it's obvious the M5 won't be frugal, i just needed some real world assurance that in it's regular (for me if i get one) duties it will not rape the budget & high 20's is comfortable enough. Will be test driving one hopefully this week, along with the E63 & should then be able to get an order in for Oct/Nov delivery.
