Afternoon fellas,

I recently aqquired an approved used M6 coupe from Eastern BMW Edinburgh, only a month or so ago. Fantastic dealership all round, would definately recommend them.

Yesterday, I noticed a few faults on the car, although not particularly major - one of the xenon bulbs appeared to be on its way out. The light it was projecting was a yellow colouration, and not the blue/white colouration you would expect to get. The illuminated M door sills also aren't working (Usually down to water infilltration I believe).

As i said, not particularly catastrophic failures, but nonetheless,as a car that should have received a rigorous check through prior to handover, it's a little more irritating than angering.

My local BMW dealer is Williams Rochdale, who I rang yesterday to try and get the car booked in for the above failures, only to be told that "Bulbs and trim are not covered with the 12 month approved used warranty". I was shocked to say the least, as I know that both these failures although minor, are very expensive to fix.

I'm due to ring Eastern today and inform them of the situation, but it appears Williams do not want to play ball. Ridiculous really as I've only had the car 4 weeks or so.

Anyone had any experiences such as this?

Thoughts/opinions appreciated as ever.

Cheers.

Even by their own rules, they're only half right - Xenon Bulbs should be covered

http://www.approved.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmwauc/benefit...

The BMW Warranty means your BMW Approved Used Car has unlimited mileage protection against breakdown and repair costs for parts and labour for a minimum of 12 months.
We want you to have total confidence in your car, which is why the warranty is backed by BMW, not third party insurers, and even covers the battery and exhaust. The open road is waiting...
The following are not covered by the BMW Approved Used Car Warranty: brake and clutch facings, discs and drums, bulbs (except Xenon), fuses, channels and guides, weather strips and seals, handles, hinges and check straps, trim upholstery, and cosmetic finishes, wheels and tyres, wipers blades and arms, glass, auxiliary drive belts, coolant and fuel hoses, the cleaning and adjustment of any component and all service items or items that will require periodic replacement. Corrosion is also not covered by
the warranty.

i had my door sill lights done under auc, no questions asked. I also had a new headlight done under auc too.

ETA my sill was done as it was not upholstery trim, or a bulb (even though it includes leds).

check the classification and compare it against the post above as for inclusion/exception

Go back to the dealership you bought it from. Ensure you don't visit or speak to your local one again.

It's a 2006 car. I would happily visit Eastern Edinburgh again, but to drive 250 miles to get some minor warranty work done seems a little excessive!I'm based in Manchester.

Find another local dealer?

I've heard of many sills being replaced under warranty.

Following a problem with an intermittent fault with the indicator, I've just had a complete new headlamp unit (retail cost inc fitting +£1600) on the 7 series, covered by the BMW Mondial warranty. Just paid the excess and the dealership took care of the rest. I'd expect a higher level of service for an AUC....

I also had a full headlight replacement on my M5 when an adaptive light motor gave up. All done under warranty no problems at all, dealer handled everything. I just paid £100 excess. I was told that it would have cost upwards of £1200.

Update - Managed to have the illuminated door sills replaced under warranty (Williams BMW Rochdale), but still having nightmares in trying to get the xenon bulb done - it even states that xenons are covered in the AUC handbook, I quote, "The only items not covered by the comprehensive BMW Approved Used Car Warranty are: Brake and clutch facings, disc and drums, bulbs (except Xenon), .......This to me is stating the Xenon bulbs are covered under the policy, yet they are still refusing to proceed with the work. What on earth is going on here?!

Anyone in the North West had this sort of work sorted in a swift manner at another dealership?.............. I'm running out of patience!

I asked my dealer to print me off my complete warranty history for my car. This is the relevant section. Ask your dealer why they won't cover it when it's clearly possible.

In my case the motor had failed.

Oh and the history I got covered the time before I had the vehicle. It all looks pretty much like the above and as you can see there is no personally identifiable information in there.

After a few weeks of ownership on my old 520d it was an approved used car one of the Xenons blew & I took it back to Bluebell Crewe where I purchased it from & they put a new one in no questions asked which I thought was great service but I must admit I wasn't 100% sure if it would be covered.

They have been a cracking dealership when I've used them before.

Hi there,

I hope you dont mind me hijacking your thread, but I have a quick question if you (or any other folks on here) can help? are the illuminated door sills standard on a EU E63 M6 ?

Its just that I have a 2008 M6 and I'm pretty sure my sills do not light up.
