Any value to an OEM E46 M3 back box.
Discussion
After swapping my OEM back box for a SuperSprint, then some years later selling the car on with the SuperSprint still fitted, i'm left with a back box.
Does this have any value??
I thought about listing it on fleabay starting at 99p buyer collects only, but I've just done this with a TV and it's amazing how many cranks come out of the woodwork.
I'm not a member of Cutters but that *may* be the best place for it, any suggestions welcome.

Funny i actually won one on ebay, for £40.... the seller has dont a runner.
And a few days later i bought one on cutters for £100, but this is brand new..... apparenlty, as its not been delivered yet.
There is a little value, im not putting mine back to standard though, its about trying to fix those bloody rusting clamps, figured i would get a whole new one, get them welded on and sorted 100% then clean up the old one and sell on again on ebay.

You can use Peugeot clamps on it for £12 or so, but to be honest, they really just clamps down, used loads of gum and lasted for 6 months before blowing again.
So might as well get these new ones, which should pull the pipes together, after welding of course.
Not sure on the munich legends one to be honest, so cant comment on them. But if they are not pulling the pipes together then im not sure it will be a permenant fix...... depending on how good the gaskets are i suppose.

Yup the OEM ones aint great! haha.
But they lasted 10 years and 100k, i can live with that.
So how are the clamps attached to the mid section and the back box if they are not welded on? Look exaclty like the BMW OWM ones in size and shape? Genuine question, not trying to be smart.
Not that it matters now i suppose!
Mainly bought the extra mid section and back box as there was chat that they may be gone too, i think its a heat shield, but for the sake of £200 ill get the lot done, and if they turn out to be ok, ill fling them on Ebay and see what happens.

It’s hard to describe clearly, but the pipe-end flanges are your enemy and this solution gets round that by consisting of 3 oversized clamps with narrower shim inserts, and a final standard clamp from BMW (also bolts).
The key is that the new clamps are wider than the flanges on the pipes, so slide over.
You then insert the (precision machined) narrower shims that fit flush around the pipes and clamps. The original BMW gaskets are then fitted inside and they all bolt up.
The one BMW clamp fits anyway as it slides over the solitary centre section pipe without a flange and then is secured by pushing with the soft gasket then onto a non BMW clamp.
Here are some pics of the parts etc http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=... if it helps explain.
The main thing is that this solution uses the original gaskets which I think is ideal as the exhaust system was designed with them.

Only if your car is over 10 years old and its not been done. Its defo something to consider.
Buy one thats had it done, or has been given the all clear and get it reinforced.
Mine was within the 10 years so was done by BMW no prob, but i do see the subframe as an issue now that im looking at CSL's they will be over 10 years old very soon, and the subframe cracks would be an issue.
Ideally get one thats been repaired, 2nd choice get the all clear and have it reinforced immediately.

Its now November 2014.... my E46M3 had the rusting clamps problem plus the BMW (and Quickfit) response that I needed to spend £1k plus to replace the exhaust....the Peugeot clamp answer is unsatisfactory but my local garage Lusardi Motors in London N1 (020 7254 2881) provided the answer...new clamps from BMW (one of which needs machining to fit) split in half and welded together once fitted over the flared ends of the exhaust. I now have oem standard fittings and all is now well ...
