Can anybody help with M Power learning curve?
Discussion
Hi, after years of owning some really nice supercars I've felt the need to scratch the V10 itch and my E61 M5 will be arriving shortly.
Unlike almost every other car I've owned, the M5 has me completely overwhelmed with the driving options, engine set ups etc available.
Rather than learn then all by trial and error I'd like to ask if anybody knows of a 1 day 'M' training course that's available, not only so I can learn about how to properly set the car up depending on how I want to drive it...but also the option of some track time to learn how to master the car's handling.
Alternatively, are there any well versed M5 drivers in the Cambs area who could help me get to know the myriad of settings the car has?....I'm willing to pay reasonable 'tuition fees'.

I dont think youre going to find much luck with a learning session unless you find a current owner who'll let you drive and abuse his for a day (££££££).
Do your research on the forum, and check out the buyers guide at the top of the MPower page. Plenty of info in there.
Its an epic car, just get it researched first.

Probably worth booking into a car limits course, I've heard very good things about them...
As for the settings, honestly there aren't that many, a little playing with them one at a time and you'll have the measure in no time... (Or do what I do with the m3, everything in lowest setting for the key and highest setting with the M button
)

)You'll only need one button which is the M button the steering wheel which transforms is from a civilised motorway cruiser to a schizophrenic tarmac murdering maniac! Honestly the car comes alive once in MDM 500 Sport mode.
Where are you based? Can come and see mine if you like and will go through some settings...

There's really not a lot of settings!
S2 in auto for pootling around S5 in manual.
MDM mode for a bit of fun without worrying about hitting a tree. The ordinary traction control setting is so invasive you could floor it in the wet and nothing would happen so don't be afraid.
Comfort mode suspension for pootling again, sport for hooning.
Honestly - two minutes in the idrive setting up the M button as Contigo said and you'll be done.
Then enjoy. Welcome to the E61 gang!

Just set the M button, using iDrive, to S5, P500S, sports suspension and MDM modes. Never bother with the settings again, except when you want to turn off DSC.
edit: forgot P500S. It's been nearly two years now since I sold the M5 and I'd forgotten the ridiculous fact that it starts in the pointless P400 mode.

I miss that aggresive gear change.. Brother's M3 gives me the fix when I need it though lolNow that I've sold it, I can't believe how much I actually miss that car! Litearlly the only down fall was the MPG as it was my daily driver

^^^^^^^^What they all said, gentle for wafting about, everything to max to show people who the boss is ^^^^^^^^
Until a W211 E55 K shows you who the guvoner really is as its waving at you as its pulling away from you hard down the road (IIRC the 0-130mph time for the E60 M5 is the sme as the 0-150mph for the E55........)
