Hi all,

I purchased an AUC E63 M6 2 months or so ago from Eastern BMW Edinburgh - great car & everything I'd hoped it would be!

As you'd expect, I was provided with a fully stamped service book with the usual box ticks for the various service schedules that were carried out - engine oil, brakes, filters etc, but I'm after more information on previous work carried out on the car. I was told by Eastern that the clutch & flywheel was replaced not so long ago, but I am having nightmares obtaining this sort of information from the main dealers due to data protection. I've absolutely no idea when this was done.

Anybody have a contact that is a little more willing to provide this sort of information? Is the BMW servicing system centralised for all main dealers to check a vehicles past history? As mentioned, I've got all the dates and mileage records from when the car visited the various dealerships in the service book, it would just be nice to get a detailed print out of the exact work that was carried out - obviously clutch & flywheel, VANOS and other issues aren't stated in the booklet once they are replaced, and previous owners were a little lapse in keeping the invoices it seems!

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated!

You can get it. Phone the dealer who did the work and ask them to supply the job sheets or service docs but with the owners name etc deleted. I did this with my M5. The dealer just printed a copy, blacked out sensitive info and then emailed me the scan. Simple! The only time they cant supply past info is if its warranty work. For that stuff youre stuck.

Also, only the dealer that did the work will supply the information you need. So you might have to ask Eastern for a list of dealers the car has been to in its life.

When my M6 was in for servicing a few weeks ago, the dealer (in Northern Ireland) was able to tell me warranty work that was carried out in the past by UK mainland dealers. He scanned my key and it all came up on screen...

If you ask nicely (insistently) you can get then entire warranty history printed off.
But it does depend on the dealer, there seems to be no overriding policy.

Persistence is key here.

I have managed to get the original sales invoice (copy) and BMW Approved Used Car preparation for sale invoice and the invoice for some minor Pre-sale work requested by the then owner such as iPod connector, polish and touch in all round.

I had these requests rejected by the BMW Dealers in question several times before I am successful.

I now have nearly most of the proper service history in invoices.

Though one service was at a BMW Dealer in Germany and I don't think they exist any longer.

10/10 for effort there then. I might give it another go,It dates back to 2009 now doubt they will be willing to go that far back ?

This is for my 2006 M3 CS.

The previous owner gave me all the service history when he bought from 2008 onwards.

Was sold as BMW Approved Used Car to him in Jan 2008. So they throw away any paperwork with vehicle.

The BMW Financw agreement is missing obviously from previous owner and how much he paid for it, and running in invoice from BMW Dealer in Germany as was sold by BMW Approved Used Car later.

Just be persistent.
Depends who you get on the phone
Ask in nice manner.
Sales invoice I got lucky as I met the service manager of the Dealer at a BMW Car Club visit and he sorted me out even though other staff wouldn't.

Persistence :-)

Yes sure a nice manner will help . The dealer in Bedford told me point blank the car has visited on many occasions but its not at all possible for them to tell me what for. The car visited a dealer in bury st Edmunds so I went there and was told It had insp 1 at Bedford. Think they're just not interested in helping at all.
