F10 M5 Insurance & Fuel!!

Just a heads up for those many who've ordered an F10 M5 recently & are awaiting delivery or those coming up for renewal.
Have run my details through comparethemarket.com several times & i keep getting Tesco come up as the cheapest insurer (by a big margin). Seems odd as they've never been competitive before & the cover is some £100 less per annum than my A8. Best quote i got with the bells & whistles based on Class 1 was £390 which for a £75k performance saloon seems pretty reasonable.
Also & i'm sure i'll get shot down for this, but does the new M5 require Tesco 99/V-Power or will it run quite happily on the 95 ron stuff??

That's not bad at all on the insurance. The F10 will run perfectly well on 95, although having tried this once, response wise, it does feel like it has a slight cold - that's the best way I can put it. I stick with 97 and upwards.
Funny thing, the M5 2013 june model I borrowed ran well on Sainsburys 97Ron.
This LCI M5 I have just picked up does NOT, I have filled with Esso and Tesco 99 and Shell, all were giving 25+ MPG this Sainsburys crap is giving 23.5 MPG with lighter use!!!.
No more for me .

Cheers. Kind of expected I'd need to put the higher grade stuff in due to the blowers, but in the GT-R for instance it was unwise to put anything other than Super in & most cars had adjustable mapping for different fuel grades.
The M5 ( I have been told) makes it's advertised power with 95 RON fuels, it makes more with 97/98/99 ron.BMW have made sure you get the quoted power from good fuels not necessarily the very best fuels, so 95 just may be good enough.
I will put it to the test over the next few weeks.
I struggle to get super etc where I live. I have run 95 Ron twice now and no difference in performance. Makes me wonder if the 97 I get where I live sits in the tank so long it's lost it's advantage over 95. Even if I run optimax I feel no difference but not done any real testing to confirm either way

Got a Tesco's within 5 miles that sells 99 & 2 Shell garages within 3 miles so will fill her up with the good stuff. Just wanted a sanity check that 95 ron was acceptable as in some cars (especially the GT-R) it's ill advised.I used BMW for insurance, no need for a tracker cheap as well.

Tesco for whatever reason didn't even mention Tracker but i'm going to go back into the quote & double check to be on the safe side

I have had to put 95 in mine a few times when they've been out of 97+ and to be honest, day to day it feels no different at all and economy seems unaffected around town.
On a motorway run, economy does seem to be 1mpg or so down.
Its so bloody quick anyway, I haven't been able to tell the difference in power or response.

Class 1 business. I've a clean license, well over 10yrs NCB, good postcode & the car will be garaged when not in use. Wife does help the premium even though with the recent EU ruling it shouldn't. No one is worried, but why would anyone with an ounce of common sense pay more than they need/have to purely for the sake of it??
In much the same way i'll be opting for the cheapest insurance quote when the time comes. Tight fisted i am but worried i'm not

Many high performance cars run perfectly well & in some cases expected on regular unleaded. As stated above, it appears the M5 is such a car so very little point paying an extra 7-10p per litre for no reason at all. Some cars as per the GT-R run dog rough on regular unleaded as are tuned/timing set to run Super.

Tesco £511 (didn`t want tracker) needless to say used them
Elephant £689
BMW £1014 and wanted tracker
Running mine on 95 ron, as it says that on filler cap and dealer said yeah fine on that
Knocking about it`s doing 21 mpg so far, happy with that. My old Evoque 2.2SD4 only did 27.5mpg and diesel is more expensive

Again, pretty much the same for me although insurance was £800 with Tesco as have max NCB but had a claim for whee theft a few years ago.Tesco £511 (didn`t want tracker) needless to say used them

I think the exhaust does sound great from outside the car but a bit too tame inside. I have heard one with an Eisenmann Race exhaust which sounded awesome outside but again, remarkably quiet inside so a good testament to the soundproofing engineers I guess!

sure BMW want a tracker? my car sits on the street no garage and deffo no tracker. the guy on the phone was cluless. he sent the quote anyway, when i read through it i noticed no additional security. I called them back and a different guy confirmed no tracker was needed. That made the 500 quote pretty cheap i though

Tesco didn't ask for Tracker. Like many I'd not like being forced to get Tracker fitted as not sure I'd want my car back after some scrote has ragged the t1ts off it. Will try BMW insurance as they appear to be competative from the above posts
