I'm looking at 'earlier' E92's from a bmw approved dealer, 08/09 auto either coupe or convertible. Any things to consider when looking at the earlier ones. The price point is better for me as I don't want to be spending late 30's/40's on a car that's no longer in production. I'm going to finance and looking for the security of a guaranteed residual price. Any advice/guidance gratefully received. Thanks
To be honest there isn't a great deal that goes wrong with these cars. I have a 2007 E92 M3 but its only done 20k miles and I've had no issue with it 19mths of ownership.
I know the throttle actuators can fail but I've not had this myself. Be a bit wary of the new Shell V-Power Nitro+ fuel as a lot of the E9X M3's don't like it. My car reacted really bad with it. Most seem okay with it but there are enough reported problems online to suggest that there is an issue. I had to change fuels to reset the errors it threw up. Do some research on M3Cutters to learn more about the car. There will be more M3 owners on there as its an M3 specific forum whereas this one isn't.

I had an 09 Coupe that I ran from new up to 56k miles. I had no mechanical or electrical issues at all and the car was driven very hard. Lots of trackdays and on the limiter bahnstorming. I changed the oil about every 8 to 9 thousand miles and had it serviced when required. The biggest expense was fuel.
I had an 08 plate only thing to watch is the flat spot at about 3.5k, the latest ones don't have it, engine is pretty bullet proof with few horror stories.
As for V power nitro my 2012 loves it and my 08 loved optimax or whatever it was called back then.

Mine is an 08 (manual) only problems have been an ignition coil fault a while ago. It runs happily on nitro plus. Fuel is heavy but then it will be on an 07 plate or 63 plate! Best has been 26.9 mpg (on average 50 zone) worst 7mpg at limited top speed.
Now on 70k miles and still loving it.
