What determines E60 M5 oil service miles to go indicator?
Discussion
I bought the car six months ago at 32,300 miles and the computer said oil service due in 4,700 miles.
Less than 1000 miles later and it's dropped to 2,700, then within a month 800 miles, I've only done about 200 miles since and it's now down to 150 miles to go!!
The previous owner did long motorway journeys, I do mixed driving but still a gentle 17 mile commute to work, mostly motorway and I always warm up the car properly and only push it on the slip roads.
Why has my predictor dropped so quickly? What kills it? Percentage of time cold running? Number of start ups? Revs?
My 325i does the same driving and goes the full 15,000 between condition based servicing, I don't drive the M5 that hard.
What milage do you guys get between oil service for "regular" driving?
Many thanks.

The car actually has sensors which can measure oil samples. I know it's hard to believe but according to this document it will alert you if the oil needs changing.
