Thought i'd read a quote from someone high up in ///M saying the M-DCT would be the only gearbox option? Video seems to sugest otherwise...

Some news came out yesterday saying the manual, was standard, seemed to be the opposite of what the "ones in the know" were saying from the motoring press.
I'd have been happy with just the DCT. :/

Autocar suggest it's a variation of the 1 M Coupe 6 speed, with a lighter clutch......

Looks like it's going to be awesome!

Why miss an opportunity to charge £1500 for an opption that 60-70% of drivers will take.

This is BMW's 4th attempt at the 'sequential' box and this one will be the best yet.

There really is no need for cars to be produced with a manual gearbox any longer, it is NOT the future.soapbox

The future isn't that exciting then is it...great if you want lower emissions & better MPG but for a select few of us that enjoy three pedals & a gear stick it's worth hanging onto the past I think.

I can't ever see flappy paddles giving you the same interaction as a proper manual but I do appreciate a twin clutch is far quicker but when I drive my other halfs twin clutch with girly paddles it just doesn't get my juices flowing its really easy & relaxing but who wants that in a drivers car?

The market for a manual gearbox is pretty much dead but I think it will be missed in years to come, but it all boils down to personal preference & you either like one or the other there isn't a middle ground.

Have read that the manual M3/M4 will have an electronic rev matching feature - presumably like the one on the 370Z. I want a manual so that I can get satisfaction from accurate rev matching. If I had an auto rev matching feature, why would it not be better to go the whole way and get DCT?

I'm sure you will be able to turn it off in the iDrive menu.

Yes I expect so. But why would someone want that particular combination? If you want manual why would you want auto match? Or vice versa?

I simply have no idea. To cater for the people who are too lazy or malcoordinated to learn heel and toe?

Having my mind set on the DCT in the M4 I was left a little surprised after having a try at some sporty driving in my 3 series last night, into sport and a country lane later and I felt very much disappointed, it was un involving and felt very wrong.
I've been driving autos predominantly for the last six or seven years and clearly not noticed how removed I was becoming, is the M DCT that much different from a regular BMW auto box?
I think I might have to go back to manual!
