You will get different answers for what people believe to be the must have options.
I have EDC on my E92 M3 which is a fun option but people who don't have it will say it's not needed. If you plan on keeping your suspension standard go for EDC. If you plan on fitting coil overs then obviously it's not needed.
The flappy paddle DCT transmission is purely your decision. I'm a manual lover so that's what I went with.
The last thing is the sound system. The base sound system is apparently rubbish. I have the Loudspeaker Upgrade fitted to mine which is considered the bare minimum. Mine sounds great but I'm no audiophile. If it's not stock then it will sound decent. The Individual Soundsystem is supposedly beyond bonkers, it's that good.
The rest of the options are purely what you would find on other cars and are personal preference.
I'd make sure you have EDC. The rest is up to you.

Forgot to add the faults.
The E9X M3 is incredibly reliable. They suffer from very few problems. I've had my car for 18 mths with no issues whatsoever.
A couple of cars have had bearing issues but these are isolated cases and by no means common. The only one you would consider "common" is the Throttle Actuator. They are off the shelf Siemens-VDO items and can fail. I've not had any issues myself.
If you research any car you will find issues. The E9X is reliable by any comparison. Go over to M3Cutters.co.uk if you want to research the saloon. There is loads of information on there.
