Having only just recently joined the M power owners club I am only just uncovering the good and bad sides to M power ownership.

So whilst I have my own list of reasons for wanting to belong, I was just wondering what other M owners reasons are, that is if they are prepared to admit it!

Well it used to be about enjoying the most sporting drive they make.

But now due to consumer demand it`s now more about comfort, gadgets, monster bhp, blingy wheels and trim and being the most expensive model in the range.

High revving engine LSD & a Manual gearbox with a resolved chassis these are the traits of a M car that I like but I was looking around the latest M6 yesterday & I fell in love but haven't got the funds though!

Genuine M cars, all aspects of performance are superior to non M. Parts are more.

M cars always had the biggest wheels, the most HP, gadgets and trim of any car in the model range.

What are you on about?

Well...at one point they were homogulated motor sports cars.
And are now comfy luxo barges. Especially the X abominations.

That was at one point, times moved on, evolve or get extinct! And isn't the beauty of something like an M5, that when you want it to be, it can be a nice, luxurious cruiser, and at the switch of a button or whenever the mood takes you, it can become a fierce animal. A real Jekyll and Hyde car.

The X5M & X6M may be abominations to you, but I doubt BMW care, they've been pretty successful for BMW in terms of sales figures.

The only ever homologised M cars as far as I am aware were E30 M3, M1, E9 3.0 CSL.

Generally M models were very highly specced particularly now days on the options list except the M3 CSL

I know. Not arguing, just saying what M Power means to most these days.

I wasn't going to join in this debate but, to me, owning an M car makes me feel special and that I have a special performance machine. I hate to say it but all these additions to the M range are making M cars less exclusive. We dont need 1M, M4, X5M, or X6M. I know that may anger people but in my mind, there's only M3, M5 and M6. The rest are purely sales figures boosters.

I know, it's a pointless discussion.

Let's just hope something more exciting comes soon, I have a feeling it will...

I would like to think something more exciting would come along but in this day & age I am not sure because what punters want from a M car is very different nowadays...we have already seen the last of the N/A engine & that's only one thing.

Just more dilution. That doesn't mean I don't think they're brilliant machines, they are but they're just another couple of examples of BMW marketing people justifying their own existance and wage packet. Keep your eyes open for the 9 series, its on its way and I'm sure there'll be a M9, X9 and X9M.............whats next ? Vans ??

Dilution and "increased bandwidth" is expanding across most manufacturers and it can be no bad thing if you look at the new 991 GT3 which, under the clever marketing of VW appeals to purchasrs wanting everyday 458 performance for sensible money without the restrictions offered by the "weekend only" 997 GT3.

I have owned numerous generation M3 and M5s and over the years over which time their appeal has broadened considerably.
