Driving through that wind and rain last night from Gatwick to Dorset I had these messages come up that stayed on. They have cleared now.

Just the water, maybe?

I had the same come up on my E61 a couple of years ago when driving in snow - I had switched off the traction control and was spending a fair few miles slightly sideways..

I left it parked when I got to where I was going and took it to the garage when I was back home - they checked it and said there was nothing wrong and it had been affected by the weather.

I'd probably still get it checked when you have a chance, but as long as it's disappeared after you've left the car for a bit, it should be OK.

This could be a number of things. I had the same fault on my M5. Turned out to be a faulty sensor in the steering wheel - however, my car was showing other "symptoms" such as also disabling the M modes. Definitely take it in to get checked out as it's unlikely the weather caused it. Probably just coincidence.

I'd check the voids under the pollen filters.
On one side you have the ABS pump and master cylinder, the other, the ECU housing. There are drain holes under these that can block and slowly submerge them.

Also check in your spare wheel well in the boot, there are all sorts of electronics right at the very bottom, underneath the foam.

I remember going through a particularly deep puddle of standing water in my E46 M3 and the gearbox warning light flashed up for a few seconds and then disappeared - no issues afterwards!

Today driving through a similar puddle and accelerating moderately I just broke traction in my M6 with a long-lasting traction control warning. I'm guessing if the warnings don't last for more than a few seconds it's just the car grumbling at you.

Hang on.... did you not say the light had gone off and not reappeared was anything actually wrong with the car?

I did. It came back on! I assume the ABS, traction control and DSC didn't work. As well as the hill assist, that definitely didn't work when the lights came on.
It had to go in. Having a service done too that is due in 2000 miles for an extra £470

Turns out my warning lights are actually the same as yours Groucho (see the other warning light thread). Came on on Saturday - then went away. Came back yesterday twice while my wife was driving with our 4 month old in the back. Not a fan of no ABS or stability control with my wife and kid and there. Not that she's a bad driver, but 500 horse plus rain...

So it's going in too!

I know what you're saying. I had to drive back 140 miles in that storm.

My car is going in on Monday as the stability light is basically now permanent - had a comedy moment on startup of the dash lighting up like a christmas tree - engine fault, stability fault, hill start fault - all in one go! In the usual IT speak - I turned it off and on again and it all went away..

No visible water in boot - be interesting to find out what it is..

Possibly the throttle Actuator(s) first signs of going? smile had to say without having the codes read or knowing what the errors are, had same on my E63.
