Hi all! anyone had these fitted? any problems getting through emissions at MOT time? what extra gains would they achieve combined with a re-map and maybe a slightly better air filter? thanks for your help, something I've been keen to do as they can be relatively cheap, but had varying opinions regarding MOT's

CSL comes standard with 200 cell cats so as long as they are decent units, all will be fine.

If you want more improvements go for 100 cell cats

100 Cell Supersprint & Miltek cats are fine for MOT.

Some 100 cell cats cause the EML light to come on but again this can be coded out via the diagnostic too if it really bothers you.

good news they are MOT friendly then, lets hope father Christmas brings me something nice lol, any one have any ideas as to what gains I'd get from them combined with a re-map?

No idea on gains, probably negligible on their own but perhaps 10bhp with a remap on the 3.2l?

One thing I can say that is that you're likely to lose some back pressure so expect less torque low down but more power up top. A remap might save such a severe torque drop though...

Really? a local company that do re-maps on a rolling road recon sports cats would increase torque, ok thanks for that one

Generally speaking, on an NA engine that is what they do. I suspect that a remap which utilises the free exhaust flow can counteract that loss.

Don't feel too disheartend as gaining massive power on any NA engine is a costly struggle. Pop over to the M3 Cutters forum and see what they say as their owners know the cars back to front smile.

Yeah I know spent thousands on my TVR in search of extra power, I love low end grunt which my V8 chim had loads of which the m3 lacks a little, over all of course the m3 is quicker, but the tiv would pull all day long in 5th at moderately low revs and I wish the m3 had more lower down, I'll take a look on that site, cheers for your help

Wrong car for low end torque. That's boring anyway. Rev the fker

The s54 is in a fairly high state of tune anyway. So modifications are going to be costly for minimal gains.

But i am tempted by freerer flowing cats. Making more noise is always good

Yeah maybe you're right, great car though and fantastic performance I just like instant power sometimes, you know foot down in any gear and sharp grunty pick up

So any other suggestions about how to screw a few extra horses and torque on top of what I'd get from a remap then? I realise you have to spend thousands on NA cars to get any real gains but I was just wondering how I could pep it up just that bit more

Personally I don't believe there's much more to be had from it without forced induction. How about giving the car a little diet, decent exhausts and a remap? You could well make up some low end shove just by lightening the load that the engine needs to push.

Yeah I agree I done some reseach and there is nothing really that can be done, everything is so well designed id get little gains from anything, I thought about lightening bits but where do you draw the line lol there are carbon fibre bits for just about everything on there :-). The remap company id use was so helpful
