Hello All,

Ive been watching the forums for some time, In December I will be getting a new m5 delivered and so thought it was time to take the plunge and post....

Today I called Bmw insurance to get a quote on the new vehicle only to be told they will not be able to insure it because it will not be garaged overnight....

"Is there anything else I can help you with ?" asked the guy on the end of the phone.

" Build me a garage ?" I replied ....

So question number 1 is has anyone else had this from bmw insurance ? I read on other threads that Tesco offers good rates on f10 m5's so I guess I will start there, but any tips would be great.

Cant wait for the new car to arrive its felt like ages and its only been about 6 weeks since i placed the order.

Thanks all.

Tesco have quoted cheapest for me.

I've also been waiting 6 weeks, seems to be dragging on a bit now!

What spec did you go for?

Have a look at moneysupermarket.com

I tried when I was looking and IIRC it was less than £900 fully comp im 26, 7 years NCB, no accidents/claims 5k a year.

It could be your postcode though, depending where you are in the country the price can vary. Have a look at this and find out which band your postode is http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance...

I am in Band B (was Band A at my parents!!)

For comparison, my E39 M5 is less than £700 a year for the same cover, although its dropped to £550 this year.

Thanks for the replies, im band C based on the CIE website.
I'll get in touch with Tesco as a first port of call.

As far as spec goes I just went for the bog standard car, as im really interested in the engine and gearbox.
It seems to come with pretty much everything i need as standard.

I set myself a 600 quid a month budget and the extra's started pushing me over that, I felt like I was paying to add value to a car that wont be mine two years from now...

I had some fun and games getting the local dealer to match the online lease price but after a few weeks of haggling they eventually matched the deal.

I was in an X5 before this, which was a mistake, My wife liked on the forecourt and then never drove it. I never felt at home in that, although it was good, its a truck not a car, so that has gone and the long wait for the new one continues... Only 4 weeks left now though...

Ive gone for Singapore Grey with black interior as we have two young children, the light interior would get mullered by the kids in no time.

As you suggest, it's a good spec out of the factory yes

Love the colour scheme, it's difficult to choose to be honest, they're all so bloody good!

Time will pass - I've also been off sick in hospital with a drip for a week and off for two nearly feeling st which has helped me pass time quite quickly!

Off to Dubai Sunday, back Friday then Berlin Saturday and back Thursday, picking my car up Friday so hopefully time will fly by yes

Fours weeks?

Will seem like a lot more hehe

Haha same boat but imperial blue and black leather, bog standard too.

Did initially order the light interior but again with 2 messy and young kids changed it for black.

The dealer is saying mid December, so im guessing four weeks, annoyingly I have to go away for work on the 16th of Dec, so the law of sod, will no doubt come into play and i'll be stuck in the states with it at the dealers waiting another week....

Time will go by quite quickly I'm sure - funny how we wish our life away at times like these!

I've asked should mine be delivered early and I can't pick it up, please don't put it in the showroom for every muppet to paw over......

£429 for mine. 35 years old, 9 years no claims, garaged at band A house.

I really hope Tesco don't have a rethink between now and when I get my reg.

Spoke with Tesco today and at least they will provide cover without a garage being a requirement. Have to wait until I get the registration for final quote, but with only four years no claims and parked on the street in a group c area £700 feels pretty good.

Tesco don't require a tracker.

Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing?

The crazy thing is my insurance came out more expensive garaging the car than parking it on the drive!

Tesco were by far the cheapest for my F10 M5.

Was surprised as they've never even been competitive on my previous cars but my quote came in well under £400 for Class 1, Protected NCB & 15k miles pa. Checked back several times to make sure i wasn't proposing incorrectly & even called them to double check.

I am having a thatcham 5 tracker fitted, the tesco quote was based on having that.
Reading about the amount of bm's that go "missing" I feel its vital too....

Tesco didn't stipulate you needed a Tracker device?

As we were discussing the car/policy she asked does it have a tracker fitted, i said yes, one of these....
It was unclear if they would quote sans tracker, because i told her it has one ...
