Found a potential car but not sure it has cruise and definitely doesn't have DSP or Logic 7.

Has pretty much everything else and very low mileage.

Is DSP a minimum requirement?

Depends how much you listen to music/radio.

If it doesn't have it, then you've got free rein to upgrade it however you wish.

Also, check if it has sat-nav, heated seats, auto-dimming mirrors, electric-folding mirrors, extended storage, extended leather, TV function, fire extinguisher, bluetooth prep, tracker, etc.

Most of the options are "nice to have" although having lots of them does add to the car...... Mine has DSP and it's definitely a good set-up, heated seats (a must if you want to have the roof down in mild/cold weather), extended storage is useful for cupholders, wind deflector (helps quite a bit a speed), Bluetooth, rear parking sensors (nice if you have a garage), Nav is pretty pointless but I use it as an electornic map and cruise is useful for economy/extended driving smile

Oh dear, methinks it doesn't have extended storage, bluetooth or PDC frown

But everything else is ticked.

Alas, I couldn't live without all of those. Sad really but I need some comfort!

The only two options I wanted were heated seats and DSP. The rest are nice to have, although I'd rather not of had the old fashioned sat nav, it's terrible and spoils the look of the dash. Unfortunately it's really hard to find a car with DSP and no Sat Nav.

Good luck with your search. I bought mine two months ago and there were 24 for sale on PH, now just 8 to choose from.

Daft question from some one who has owned a Z4MR for 2 1/2 years, but what is DSP?

Only switched my sat nav on twice in that time. It's crap. Heated seat essential. Wind deflector highly recommended. Other options not that important. My two peneth.

The satnav is much more usable once it's software has been upgraded. It's a free and easy upgrade and was the first thing I did when I got my Z4MR.

Does it fix my biggest bug bear - If I flip the screen down manually, every time I change track it flips back up with that cheap motorised noise, soooooooo annoying! smile

From my time with my coupe I find the satnav to be perfectly good- it doesn't look particularly attractive and that obviously dates it over the latest swish iDrive systems but with an updated disc with full postcode search it seems to get me where I need to be without any problems.

As to opinions on the Z4MR- in retrospect I think I could live without the (IMHO) better looks and rarity value of the coupe and save a few quid and have the option of enjoying the engine with the top down.

WJ08AUX has DSP and no Nav, it's a Sepang Bronze car. My old one.

Yeah, it's the same system in my E39 and with the updated software it works perfectly fine for my needs. Am I also correct that the bluetooth connection with phone allows the user to see names/numbers on the pop up screen?

I know of three very decent cars with warranties and all under 30,000 miles that I have turned down because they don't have satnav/bluetooth/dsp or the extended storage pack. (I've got some specialists searching for me but I'm happy to take my time.)

In an ideal world I'd also like embossed headrests biggrin

Embossed headrests is part of the nappa leather I think.

Logic 7 is the best stereo.

DSP and heated seats are well worth it. Extended leather is a nice to have (I have it) but I wouldn't call it essential. Is the MR you're interested in the one with the wood trim?

My car had Nav (upgraded to 3d & post code) and logic 7.
Standard stereo is rubbish.

If doing it again, I would use iphone and google maps, as you search where you want to go. Eg xxx hotel, rather than searching the hotel, finding the post code and ending up at the other end of the street.

And go aftermarket stereo (with an OEM look) with sd card / ipod connection. As logic 7 isn't the best (even my old avensis was better!)

You'll find none Nav cars are c £500 cheaper...

But does the OEM sat nav link up to my iPhone address book with bluetooth? This is important to me

God no! vomit

I heard about this one before it went up http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013... and would buy it in a heartbeat if it was speccd as I require.

The other two aren't yet listed for sale anywhere but are similar, with lower mileages though.

I am looking for Interlagos Blue with black embossed seats, carbon weave interior (but would do black on black car), extended storage (cup holders), satnav, bluetooth, CD, PDC, wind deflector, DSP or Logic 7, full BMW service history, sub 40,000 miles, good tyres, recent service.

Seems very hard to find in this spec, but as I said, I'm not rushing to buy the first thing I see. All the cars that I've been looking at on Autotrader for the past three weeks are still there but with price drops. I'm sure I'll find the Unicorn.....

yes, the Bluetooth synced with my iphone (4 i think) and gives address book. the interface is a simple list, that you scroll down, with multiple entries (eg home/mobile) shown.

Being completely honest I reckon it will take a while to find that spec mine is pretty much that in terms of options except it has heated seat and cruise too ( mine is Carbon black with Imola leather). Also at around 35-45k the discs usually need replacing and it'll be near the Ins II service (assuming not already done) smile
