I cannot seem to make sense of the part numbers for the Thermostat etc.

I dont want to order the wrong parts, so could someone kindly let me know what the part numbers are please?

This will be for the thermostat / gasket / O rings.

Thanks.

Thanks Richard.

Gonna use genuine parts, if only for the warranty

If you're doing it yourself, or just getting the parts, get at least twice as many O rings as you need, there is a high probability they will get nipped and cut and then leak. I've known people go through 6 sets - and no, that was not me!

Im going to do it myself once I've taken the car off the road.

So 8 and 4 respectively?

Cheers.

8 and 4 should see you through, as you actually only need 2 and 1 if your careful. Lubricate the O rings with neat coolant or Vaseline and it will make it easier.

There is a theory that the BMW O rings are a little oversized which makes the job more difficult, the actual spec of the O rings is 31 x 2.5 mm and 19.5 x 3 mm, some people have had better results with generic good quality O rings.

Would you recommend getting the non BMW O rings?

I've been quoted nearly £100 for the thermostat and O rings from BMW

As long as the O rings are good quality, not cheap ones off e-bay from China for example, they should just as good as the BMW versions. You'd need to make sure the O rings are rated for use with hot coolant type fluids.

I may just get it all from BMW.

Is nigh on £100 the right price?

Sounds about right to me. I seem to remember paying similar when I did mine earlier this year.

Try BMMiniParts, they are usually at least 10% cheaper than BMW for new parts, but you have to pay postage. However, if you get a quote from them, a dealer will normally match it.

If they don't have one in stock you need to use the Price Finder page. Just enter the part number and they will e-mail you back a quote.
