! **** you BMW for putting it in such an awkward place meaning that it needs to be installed at an angle...with orings on the end which can be prone to being damaged. Which in turn causes a leak once is up and running.

Good news is that it took 12 minutes to get it back off.

Gonna lube up that bad boy with fresh o rings, I refuse to take the Plenum off.

As you were .

Yep, it's VERY easy to split the O rings, especially as the genuine BMW ones are very soft and slightly over sized! When doing this job it's best to have about 4 sets of O rings, once you've done it a few times 1 spare set is probably enough.

Don't forget that genuine BMW parts have a 2 year warranty. If the parts fail in that time then both a replacement part and the labour to replace it is free! As the thermostat can fail after only a few months, it pays to buy a genuine part and keep the receipt!

I thought the same when I bought mine.

Sadly the thermostat failed after about 3 months. Replaced it with a genuine BMW item which is still going strong a year later.
