Can anyone help with this?
the engine went into limp mode yesterday, and put the code reader on and came up with the following codes:
0b signal camshaft sensor exhaust bank 2
a2 camshaft sensor bank 2 not plausable with crankshaft sensor position
aa secondary air quantity low
i replaced the exhaust sensor in december and came up with the first two codes but the car was fine and now the limp mode kicked in with the new aa code.
is this a problem with the MAF's or is it more problematic? There is also a strange vacuum sound coming from the bank 1 side of the engine which ive not heard before.
any ideas would be very grateful
thanks

Did you use a genuine BMS part from the dealer or a pattern part? I ask because some non-BMW cam position sensors have been problematic in the past.

And you might well have a vacuum leak from a cracked rubber boot/elbow.

the camshaft sensor is a genuine oem part but the crankshaft sensor was purchased off the net. should i replace the crankshaft sensor with a genuine oem one?
is the vacuum hoses easy enough to check/ replace?

I think I've got the secondary air error wrong - have a read of http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-dis...

As far as the cam sensor goes you could try swapping left and right, resetting the codes and seeing what happens. If the error moves banks you could try getting BMW to replace under their 2 years parts guarantee.

so the aa code is most likely related to the worryinng carbon build up issue then. might be more serious then first anticipated. ill swap the sensors and wait and see,

due to the amount of codes thrown up i have the car booked into the bmw specialist for a diagnostic check and hope they can shed some light on what the problem is. Carbon looks likely and plan to get the secondary air system repaired/cleaned and the enngine terra cleanned. The codes have picked up to many faults with the vannos on bank 2 so a full diagnostic seems a good idea. keep you posted
