Service Pack on M5 - oil top ups

I have a 2014 M5 with service pack. Got my first oil fill up message today and took it in.
Dealer put 1 litre in FoC and cautioned me that any more oil fill ups prior to service were not included in the service pack. Surely that's incorrect?
In relation to mid service oil top ups, the plan terms from the BMW website state:
What is covered?
The table below details the service elements included in each Service Inclusive package.

Am I off the planet for expecting multiple oil top ups if the CBS asks for it?

The dealer is wrong. You're entitled to all the top ups you need between services. The only potential hassle is that the car actually has to tell you that the top up is required: you can't pre-empt it by asking for a litre when you see (with an electronic dipstick check on the idrive) that the oil is a little low.Dealer put 1 litre in FoC and cautioned me that any more oil fill ups prior to service were not included in the service pack. I went for a couple of top-ups, but it was a hassle because the car needed them mid-week and I had to go out of my way to get them. So I just get my own oil so I can have a litre bottle in the boot. Now done just under 7,000 miles and the car's been using a litre every 1,200 miles on average. Do you mind me asking how you ran the car in? Did you follow BMW's guidlines (max 5,000 revs for the first 1,200 miles), or did you give it a harder run-in?Skrambles said:

This^^Plus when the 'add a litre of oil' light initially comes on, I have taken my car to the dealers twice and when they checked the key on their computer system, it wouldn't confirm the need for oil so refused to provide the oil for free. Final nails in the coffin for my relationship with the service dept. of my supplying dealer.

I was in tesco filling station later that day and even they sell the exact sane castrol oil weight and type for £9. So it's only £20 who cares but it's the point of not taking the piss.
Have sent a direct email suggesting they are in error. Same person who was adamant that there was no such thing as a 5 yr service plan, only 4, and because the key said 4, that's all I would get. Took some higher level intervention, but I now have An email that the key and the service adviser are wrong, and it is a 5 yr plan.
Key still says 4 and can't be changed apparently. BS detector on high alert.
This should be simple....

To me that sort of confirms BMW run in procedure is badly described, I'd not go so far as to say wrong!
I ran my car in according to the guidelines, but from a slightly different perspective, for the first 100 miles at every opportunity I revved to nearly 5,000 rpm but under light load. For the rest of the run in period I used slightly higher load but slightly fewer revs, usually only up to 3,5000.
My car has done nearly 3,000 miles since the running in service and has used no oil at all, at least as far as the electronic measurement goes, so at most under 250 ml.

Similar story from me. I ran the car in gently with only three or four very short blasts to the top of the rev range before having the run in service at 1000 miles (not 1200 as I couldn't wait any longer). I've done 3500 miles, mostly on motorways, and the car hasn't asked for any oil yet. Hi Andy, not a "Highjack" but I did the Hardish brake-in, NO Oil used in 5K miles to date.Car still shows Full.
I did not go over the 5.5K RPM limit but once the Oil was hot I worked the car hard for the first 40/50 miles after that Normal driving, using the gears to slow me always.

So as not to hijack this thread too much (apologies!) I may start a new thread later today with a poll to see how people best believe the engine should be run-in.

. Go mental in a rental. Mines covered 3000 miles (mainly motorway) & the oil level hasn't moved. I was somewhat forgiving up to about 500 miles & then pretty much went for it from there on. Got a litre of oil from my dealers a few weeks ago so that's sitting in the boot & was given a 2nd bottle free with the Winter check (not what you know it's who you know);)

So tiresome to have to go through this faff. I had the same on my 458 when dealer "forgot" that all 458s come with 7 years free servicing and tried to charge £1.5k. I followed the guidelines, but varied the revs as much as I could (i.e. didn't just sit at 70 on the motorway). Other than a couple of occasions when I got a bit enthusiastic for a couple of seconds, I didn't exceed the recommended max revs.I just don't get the attitude of the dealers or BMW itself (cos the dealers blame BMW) regarding the oil for top ups: why offer it as part of the package if you're gonna "nickel and dime" and inconvenience the potential buyers you're trying to impress with the deal? In the end, after going in for 1 top up (which took 1 hour, believe it or not), I was able to negotiate a small discount from the retail price of the oil so I could do the job myself, but they only reluctantly agreed to a discount.
