My F10 M5 Formally Rejected!!
Discussion
Well this is a 1st for me, as although i've experienced faults in cars before i've never felt the need to take the ultimate step & reject a car, however with an exact replication of the misfire that originally took my car off the road for 10 days in November & the admission last week that the fix in November (fuel injector replacement on cylinder 1) was not a fully diagnosed fix as BMW had even after such a length of time in the workshop not been assured that the fault was injector related & therefore we're back to square 1 as the cylinder 1 misfire returned last Tuesday, just 1900 miles on from the previous failure & pretend fix.
In between times the car's been off the road for a couple of further days due to an oil seal fault causing a leak (replaced) & a wheel sensor fault (dealer initially found the fault but then couldn't replicate it so decided to ignore it & not investigate further), however it's the misfire that's led to my formal rejection as having now been brought home twice on the back of a low loader some signifiant distances, i've had enough & no longer trust this F10 M5.
BMW UK have accepted the rejection & the originating dealer (Stratstone Chesterfield) are looking to source another M5 as quickly & painlessly as possible, however neither are appearing very good at communicating & i've several times been expecting update calls just to be left waiting in the dark. As i took this car on BMW Contract Hire, BMW Financial Services are also involved as the deals available last Autumn have long gone, therefore BMW will be financially bolstering the deal. I'm still driving round in a bright red Diesel Manual Honda CR-V which BMW ES gave me last Wednesday, however i'm being told BMW are sourcing something more in keeping with my M5 from Group stock. Still to hear what/when this will be happening though.
To say i'm p1ssed off is an understatement & on Friday i made contact with Audi as was fully intending to demand a refund & swap back to a marque i have more trust in. I have of course had faults with Audi's in the past, but the whole dealer support (from my local dealer) & manufacturer customer service in my experience is a lot better with Audi than BMW (to date)
I've no idea how long this whole process with take & am still hesitant on pushing the button for another M5, this compounded by the fact i've only had 2 BMW M's (previous in 2006/7 was an E60 M5) & that M5 failed in spectacular fashion so i sold sharpish once the SMG transmission had been replaced.
I'll keep this thread updated with progress.

Time to buy a Lexus.....
Sure, consider a Lexus.. It will work wonderfully... you'll just die of boredom. Ideal cars for doctors, soo clinical, no personality compared to BMW. BMW might leave you by the side of the road, but you'll enjoy getting to the side of the road lolIf only they could make a car with the build quality/reliability of a Lexus and the enjoyment to drive of a BMW. Now that car would sell.
If you're willing to have another m5, I can't see any reason why BMW wouldn't offer you the same terms on a replacement, for the duration of the original agreement: after all, it's their fault that you've been deprived of the car.
It does seem like you've been very unlucky with m5s, but 'third time lucky'. Plus, I can't think of another saloon which comes close to the f10 m5.

I'm in agreement with the above - the M5 is an awesome car and you've been unlucky but it would appear are being looked after.
A new car on the same terms would be a great result
Best of luck!
I'd disagree with the being looked after partA new car on the same terms would be a great result

I'm still paying for my M5 but am driving around in a Honda CR-V rental so that's not a great situation. I have no idea how things are actually progressing & how the replacement deal will look financially, term & mileage wise. Not sure how a new car on the same terms is a great result as that surely should be the very minimum BMW do. I'm not expecting at the end of the day to be out of pocket but currently i'm paying for an M5 but getting a CR-V. Also having to do all the chasing which is demonstrating the poor BMW Customer Service.

My sympathies. Out of interest, does BMW Finance continue to make you pay the rentals in full until such time as a formal rejection is accepted by them? And do they reimburse you for any time that the car has been off the road?
Unfortunately i have no answer yet, although i'd have hoped i would
I've not been told to stop paying & the formal rejection has already been accepted by BMW so i'm awaiting clarification.W8PMC said:

If GT3 owners are also getting CR-V's as loan cars, no doubt Honda will capitalise on the publicity.

The Beetle towing a tow-truck comes to mind - how times change.
I'm really sorry to read this having recently experienced very poor customer service from another premium brand.
Though I know it's unlikely to be of any comfort, my experience of BMW so far has been excellent. Today I called to arrange my cars 1,200 miles service to be told that no courtesy car was available. Soon after the salesperson I bought the car from - Steve Maher at Halliwell Jones Chester - called me and offered to lend me his car for the day.
I hope you get it sorted soon, and that BMW provide you the confidence to give them another opportunity.

At least they appear to have accepted the rejection without a fight and I am certain that you will be compensated for the time you've been without the M5 (I've been there) so relax on that. I understand your frustration on the communication front, but I don't think that's exclusive to BMW, it seems to way with most main dealers. On the upside, at least you can go car shopping again.
Making progress today. All financial aspects sorted so today BMW are pushing me to place my order with Stratstone for my replacement M5 & therefore i just need to decide if i fancy a different colour combo or to add any options (i guess i could negotiate the cost of any options over & above those i had on the outgoing M5).
BMW will cancel the current Contract Hire & start a fresh one within the next couple of days (at the rates/costs i got when the original car was acquired & this is being subsidised by BMW UK). Still some discussions regarding mileage as i'd been sandbagging given the car didn't really go anywhere during the last 8wks of wife's pregnancy & 1st 4 wks of new arrival & how the advanced rental will be handled?
Also confirmed an interesting toy will be arriving on Friday for my usage whilst waiting for the my new M5 to be built/arrive. BMW are dropping off a brand new M50D which by the look of it could be quite a giggle
