M135i - pre purchase advice
Discussion
Morning all,
Spec'd up a new 135i yesterday. Must say was very impressed with the car.
I added the premium media package as think this would be a nice to have but not sure - what say the PH team? Is the business package just as good?
Having read through the forum and read a few reviews it would appear that MPG in eco pro on a journey is pretty good too. What is tyre wear like? I didn't spec the run flats but wonder what real world reviews suggest as to how often tyres need replacing.
Also what are people paying for services, both A and B?
Is there anything else i need to be looking out for? Eg any must have options?
Cheers,
Woza.

I'd say the 8 speed auto is a must have. If you do long journeys I'd also consider the adjustable suspension (my car doesn't have that and on occasion I wish it did). I'd go for the top audio option also as the others are not great and the top option is pretty decent for the money.
Not sure if Online Entertainment has made it to the 1 but if it has spec that. I have it on the M5 and its awesome.
My car came with PSS tyres and I got 15K out of them on the old E92 M3 before I sold it and I reckon they had anther 3-4K in them. Rears are the focal point of course.

I've got the auto and adaptive suspension on my car and it gives it a duality that works really well for me.
Comfort suspension in D is very comfy and effortless but sport suspension with manual changes transforms the feel of the car entirely. In that mode and using some left foot braking it becomes a real weapon even over a bumpy B road.
I've only got the basic (business) Hifi but it's fine and not as awful as I'd expected. I'd go for the advanced upgrade if I had the chance again as it's not too expensive.
Otherwise you must spec the comfort pack to get cruise and rear park sensors.

BMW Sports exhaust!
It's a must. Sounds great.
It might sound great but is a horrible looking thing (V.2) and seems to have been made by blind children. The new Carbon tips look particularly crap. It's a must. Sounds great.
Also look at a full catback from BCS which will get you the full catback system for the same price as the M-Performance backbox.
Pre-purchase advice? I'd check out the fan/limp mode thread on babybmw.net There's 30+ pages of issues with the M135i fans going into overdive for no apparent reason and the car cutting into limp mode - great fun - you drive home from wherever it happened at 20mph! I'm told there's a BMW recall for a new fan control unit but some dealers are being a bit coy about this

I have a white 5 door auto - in my opinion the auto is great but I'd still like a shot of a manual.
You'll struggle to see a difference in mpg in eco pro mode compared to comfort - it seems to be nothing more than a gimmick imo.
I tend always to drive in sport mode as I prefer the heavier steering.
Tyre-wear wise - I'm not sure - I have standard tyres which I assume are run flats - I guess it depends on how hard you drive it.
Enjoy.

just for info, standard tyres aren't run-flats, they're, well, standard. In eco-pro mode, the car feels like it's broken and its somewhat disconcerting if you're expecting to nip out of a junction to overtake something. Hardly worth using it. Enjoy.
(we have auto box, and it's great, and I use the paddles too esp for setting up an overtake - great fun)
Tyres: the PSS OE tyres is dual compound and softer on the outside, which combined with the very limited (and not adjustable) front neg camber means that the front tyres outside shoulders take a battering if you use all the lateral grip, so much so that they may end up shot before the rears...Not a problem for normal or motorway use though.
Over specced cars have suffered much higher relative deprecation than low spec cars so far so think hard if you really need nav or gadgets.
A/B servicing doesn't apply, it's condition based. The £500 servicing pack is a no-brainer but some dealers still try and charge £800 for it.
Avoid the scam options like Seal and Protect (check your invoice, they will try and sneak it in).

The car sounds great from the outside. You only need pop the windows down, give it a few revs and let it pop a little on the overrun to know that (mine's a manual, I've read here that the auto does this more).
Yes the sound it's pumped into the cabin but it's a very refined car so you wouldn't really hear the engine but for this. Some may see this as a gimmick but I can't think of one reason why it's a bad thing. It sounds great and it's better than silence and a blurred horizon with zero drama.

comfort pack is great but the limiter does the job as a basic sort of cruise control
black panel display worth the additional cost (didn't get that :-()
I have business nav and it's fine
I agree black panel should be on your list although I think it's included if you go for the nav.black panel display worth the additional cost (didn't get that :-()

I don't have it and I wished I'd spent the £3 a month on it now!
