Hi All,

I noticed last night that the earth straps on the back box of the exhaust have both broken. The car had a new Cat at the dealer just before I bought it so guess they were damaged then.

I'm going to get them both replaced ASAP but, in the mean time, it doesn't do any harm to use the car does it!? I would guess not & I'm probably being over-cautious but as I don't really know their purpose I thought I'd just ask the question.

Thanks, Ben

Speaking to a friend who is the Automobile Electrical equivalent of Stephen Hawking, it is something to do with stopping the exhaust causing static interference on the radio!
Scary…….my 1972 MGB never had this….but it never had a lot of other things either………..!

Thanks for the reply. Funnily enough, my old man suggested this too. I think he said he'd seen it on older Fords or something.

Anyhow, I phoned BMW today & they're going to replace them both (under warranty) although they couldn't tell me of their exact purpose!

Cheers, Ben
