E39 M5 cuts out

Owned my M5 for 3 months now but on 2 occasions it has cut out without any warning. Both times it was (luckily) as I was slowing down at a junction but it was still very scary. Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Could be any number of things.

Have you read the codes?

I'd start by looking at the oil separator pipes (a DIY) and also look for other vacuum leaks.

Also, possible fuelling problems (fuel filter and the pump...the pump is a common weak point) or sensors - cam, pre-cat O2, MAFs. Potential for issues elsewhere, too. You really need to read the codes.
Some have issues with duff/wrong/weak batteries giving not dissimilar problems.
