M3 E90 DCT issues

On start up the system tells me i have to have the car running to put in neutral (or words to that effect)

Now this doesn't affect drive or P or anything.....just gives me the right camel everytime I start up

My local BMW main dealer tell me something is broken within the box and it's going to cost me X thousands for a new box.

Anyone ever heard of a similar issue?? I get the feeling the dealer is guessing as they've had it 3 days.

So its just an issue with N? If so, do you need to use N?

N works...it all works...only an issue with it telling me it needs to be selected when engine is running.

Stupid Question but you haven't got one of the doors slightly open have you?

Mine pops up with something like this if one of the doors is open, it does it as a safety feature.

Sounds bizarre. I wouldn't worry if the car is functional, just leave it or keep searching for a company that might know more. Can you post a photo of the message?

No not such a stupid question...I know what you mean.

Though a door is not open there could be a faulty switch.

I'll get the car back today and get a pic of the message.

No message pic as it's no gone

They said the box had internal failure and needed a new unit and that fault will not clear down

I said leave it as it functions fine BUT can they download latest gearbox settings/updates which they did.

Gearbox works better and no more fault showing up on display

What's all that about then?

Perhaps old buggy DCT software? Had it with mine.. Had very laggy do I or don't I go D1 or D2 gear selections until the latest software was installed.

With the SMG box it used to be a salmon coloured relay (£20 from dealers) or the bonnet needing closing and many problems used to go away. DCT more complicated.

Can you do a manual reset on the DCT (pull back paddles at 50mph in neutral)?
