Fully Comp BMW Insured Warranty (Allianz) with zero excess, upping the excess didn't make a huge difference. If it had been around £1000 I may have gone for it, but its not a daily so shan't bother at that price

Given that the E46 has been around since 1999 most of the standard parts/systems are well known by indies so perhaps just named component or driveline cover is more cost effective. A fully comp 0 excess warranty on a limited use car seems a bit OTT to me.

Don't disagree but still seems a lot of money to me, I probably wont bother and deal with anything that comes up as and when; for comparison

Named Component £250 excess £1281 (SMG not covered)

Driveline £250 excess £868 (SMG not covered)

Warrantywise £792 (SMG no covered!)

Warranty Direct £1102 (SMG not covered)

For comparison I pay £102 per month for BMW Mondial warranty with nil excess and home start, recovery etc 06 plate M5 SMG. This was renewed at about 53,000 miles. basically price doubles over 60k.

I think I'd be quite content paying that a month considering the potential for bork on the M5. Just a shame all of the ones that qualify for this are more than I can afford frown

I too have wondered about these too.

My M6 is on extended AUC warranty till Nov 2015. Can I renew this, and at what cost or is this not possible?
Or am I better off selling it before then, while the car is still under warranty?

Slightly off topic from what the OP's original post was about but as I'm in the market for an E61 M5, I thought I'd share the information that I was given by Mindial yesterday.

They've basically said that the monthly policy cannot be transferred to a new owner but instead, the new owner has to to take out a new policy altogether. This is different to what've read in other posts/threads.

This comes up fairly regularly. It's not always a good idea getting an extra years warranty thrown in. One needs to think about what mileage the car will be on when the warranty comes up for renewal. You need to renew as a monthly on the anniversary before it ticks over 60k.

Eg.
Car has 38k miles on it, yearly warranty is 1000, you do 10k/yr. Negotiating an extra year is a good idea. Renewing at 58K will keep the monthly at around 1100 (monthly is slightly dearer)

Car has 42k miles on it, yearly warranty is 1000, you do 10k/yr. Negotiating an extra year is a bad idea. At 62k miles the warranty will be ~2200/yr for every year going forward, so you've lost the cost benefit of the 1 year free thrown in by the dealer at renewal time and will be ~1000 worse off for each year going forward.

I think it has always been like that.

Yes, the new owner starts fresh, but doesn't pay any lapse premium.

When I got my e46 m3 I was just under 60k miles, so took out the monthly warranty at £71/month. 2 years later with no issues (now on 75k miles) I have cancelled it. From what I can tell these cars are reliable if serviced properly, at least in terms of the items covered by the warranty. The other major worry (boot floor) I believe wouldn't be covered by the warranty anyway and my '03 car is outside of the 10 year 'goodwill' repair that BMW supposedly offer.

I bought mine on 67500 and it is now on 70500 so I've done 3000 miles in one year.

It was always a risk buying a car with 67000 miles knowing the warranty situation in the 'high' mileage bracket so I got the 2 year cover thrown in. It is beyond this mileage which concerns me. Then again, I hope to have sold the car on before then.
