Looks very similar in spec and performance?
Would it be worth upgrading to Porsche for x2£?

Going back a few years but I've owned both m3 first then c4s). For me the m3 was way more comfy, more practical, more reliable, cheaper to run and felt faster. The c4s feels more special, goes round corners much better and attracts more attention.

I've owned 3 E46 M3s (2 Coupe, 1 Cab), and 2 996 C4S, as daily drivers.

The E46 is a nicer car to be in I would say. The C4S is pretty basic but functional inside. The Navigation is st, and there's no Bluetooth to be had. If you have a 996 with Bose then you can't retrofit Bluetooth either, from what I was told, due to the system being fibre optic.

The 996 definetly attracted more attention, and felt more of an occasion than the M3. Both of mine had the Porsche Sports Exhaust, and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end when giving it some! The C4S went round corners like it was on rails!

I fixed more on the Porsche' than I ever did with any of my M3s, and I'm on my 9th M3! They are kind of fragile in my opinion. Front wheel bearings, water pump, coil packs, fuel pump. Maybe I'm speaking out of turn, but the BMW is a better built car in my opinion. Hard to compare, both very different.

If it's a weekend car for a blast, then the 4S, if it's a daily driver and you need a back seat, then the E46. I think they're probably both at there bottom value, so not much to be lost. If anything, the Porsche might creep up in value, slightly??

These things are always so much about personal preference.

However, as someone who went from a 996 Turbo to an E46 M3 and then a new E92 M3, I would never consider swapping either of the M3's for any sort of 996 Porsche.

Totally IMO of course but based on ownership of both.

Interesting! There are so many threads that try to split these two.

I'm kind of leaning towards an e92 next, but I am tempted by a 996/7 at the same time.

Mach,

What makes you rate the E46 above the 996TT?
