Evening folks!

I was kindly given one of these today.....diesel estate....manual....but M-sport!!

Am I the only one who can't get on with the ergonomics of these things?

Off-set clutch pedal, coupled with a very uncomfortable driving position, with a less than smooth gearbox and awkward changing positions, gave me a sore neck and headache after only half an hour.

It was truly awful.

I love manuals, but BMW can surely do better than this.

How are you supposed to say change down from sixth to fifth to fourth to third without a series of arm/body contortions??

Maybe they're so used to autos that manual needs are ergonomically overlooked.

I also sat in a new CTR today....wow....keen drivers will just love those things, mark my words.....sweet Honda box was

perfectly positioned and felt so snickety snick!

Honda have also been good at nice gearboxes, My EP3 CTR and S2000 I had were fine examples of that. In fact I can't think of anything better in that regard from all the cars I've driven.

I'm guessing the offset clutch pedal is the same as in my 235i. It definitely felt weird when I first got the car (way over to the right) but I don't notice it at all now.

BMW's have had offset clutch pedals for decades, its nothing new. LHD BMW's have the pedals laid out properly, on RHD cars the clutch is in the middle with the brake and accelerator to the right of it. Very odd.

I know.....I've never driven a BMW manual that I thought was good.....the E39 M5 was the best box-wise.

The high clutch and uncomfortable position of the stick made this one terrible to drive.....and I pride myself in being a smooth, mechanically sympathetic driver.

Getting my F10 back was wonderful.....we forget just how great these things are!

at least you got a BMW as a loan car OP.

my M3 went in for a wing replacement to Spire BMW and i ended up with a peugeot 307 diesel. it was horrific.

I borrowed the missus 3 series the other day and properly shat myself. I drive an old school 911 most of the time with the peddles offset to the left. Half way up the M1 with the cruise control on I came up behind a car but was boxed in as cars were passing to the right. I tapped what I thought was the brake pedal but the car continued at its 80mph pace towards the car in front. I hit what I thought was the brake peddle 3 times before I realised I was banging the clutch peddle. The first time I've ever done that in 20 years of driving and all my fault but its strange what offset can do if you switch to unfamiliar cars.

My local got a earful a couple of weeks ago, M3 had a service and I was given a red 1.6 1 series with sales stickers all over it. Never seen so much plastic.

Offset clutch pedal truly ghastly (and dangerous too, ask me how I know. ....)
Personally I can see no reason to go with the manual option, the ZF 8 speed auto is that good.
This.

I can think of no reason for a manual 320d to exist.

The 8 speed auto is epic and so well suited to the engine.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand why some prefer a third pedal, in a drivers car. But in a 320d?
