I assume the reference is to the quad exhausts and 520i badge.

Question is, is it a 520i with M5 look alike exhaust, or an M5 with a 520i badge?

The Germans do this or debadge quite a lot, I think it's a to deter theft.

Looks like an M5 to me although can't really tell!

The rear bumper, diffusor and slightly wider stance (m5 is 31mm wider than the standard F10) tell me it's an M5, or someone has gone to an awful lot of trouble.

Plus the you can tell the wing mirrors even when folded are the M5's (slightly more rounded than the standard F10.

Wing mirror has the same shape as an M5 as far as I can see yes

I didn't know the M5 was wider than a normal F10, thought they were all the same?

An M5 badged as a 520.

There was a chap called Nathan who had an M3CSL with a 318Ci badge a few years ago.

It's times times like this that I wish I had got around to ordering a 318tds badge for my old E36 Evolution Saloon. Oh well...

I did like that one, but consider the CSL still a bit too different from the cooking model to really get away with it

My E34 3.8 used to be badged as a 520i, and is currently running without any, but then I reckon even with "M5" badges people would probably think it's a fake anyway. Almost an M-car double-bluff wink

It's parked next to a Ferrari, Porsche turbo and other guests have parked their riva speedboats at the hotel so I think it's a proper m5, just made me laugh

The Germans do like to do this. I was on the Autobahn this year being followed by a 3 series touring whilst overtaking another car at c120 mph and accelerating. I moved across and the 3 series blasted past. It was a grey SE with a 316d badge. The acceleration speed and pair of exhausts suggested otherwise.
